PITTSBURGH -- A month after Teresa Heinz Kerry's first husband, John Heinz, the ketchup heir and U.S. senator, died in a plane crash in 1991, she took his place as head of the family philanthropies.

The first significant request she fielded was from the Pittsburgh Symphony, which had depended on the family's largesse ever since her husband's great-grandfather provided early funding for the orchestra a century earlier. The symphony was beset with financial and labor problems, and it was burning through cash. The board wanted a $30 million grant to launch its new capital drive.

They didnt mention the Tides Foundation. I thought Saint Theresa supported that heavily. They also didnt mention her support for lawyers for the terrorists.

Maybe someone can help me here: How did THK -- an "outsider"-- become head of the Heinz family fortune? Did John Heinz have no surviving blood relations? You know, no children, brother(s),sister(s), aunt(s), uncle(s) or cousin(s)? Why I ask is that most families bend over backwards to keep the family fortune, whatever its size,in the family. Surely John Heinz left a will; was it ever challenged?

.....Teresa Heinz Kerry, 65 years old.....

You know, after reading about her recent outbursts as reported by Drudge, I have a gut feeling that Teresa Heinz wants Kerry to lose this election.

Think about it.

Teresa Heinz now wears the pants in her family and has $550 million to play with during her remaining time in this life.

If Kerry becomes President, she will give up her privacy, live in the White House fish bowl where the press and public will scrutinize every $10 million Italian villa she buys and her younger gigolo will suddenly have more power than she has.

Assuming a second term, she will be trapped in that lifestyle until she is 74.

Teresa Heinz needs Kerry to become President like she needs a venereal disease.

I predict more acting out by Teresa as the November elections get closer.

As Mrs. Heinz Kerry sees it, grant making should be held to the same standards as venture capital investments. "You're going to win some, and you're going to lose some," she says, "so you better have the best mechanisms in place to be accountable.

What's wrong with this? If only our politicians were as stingy with our tax dollars imagine how much better off we would be.

"At the program's peak, in May 2000, $34 million had been spent, including more than $10 million in Heinz money, and the centers were serving just 680 kids"

Ouch! Even the french looking Kerry might have trouble wasting that kind of money for so little gain!

I'm not sure she is head of the family fortune; what she does appear to be head of is the family's charitable endeavors.

She and John Heinz had three sons; I don't know how old they were when Sen Heinz was killed.

Very good points. From the first time I saw her interviewed, it was obvious she didn't really want to be in Johnny Vietnam's spotlight. I didn't know her first huzzy was a Repub. 25 years of conservative views has to be affecting her thoughts toward the wild Dems these days.

Senator Heinz was a republican. Killed in a plane crash. His multi-billion dollar fortune finds it's way into the pocket of this contry's most liberal socialist senator....how convenient for America's socialist.

Sounds about right for pubic edumakayshen.

Interesting take. As a resident of MA I always had the feeling she wanted to be First Lady desperately but the more I see of her the more I'm convinced that I'm wrong. She doesn't look like a happy camper. It could also be true that this little affair with the intern is true and she's about had it with Frenchy.

There were no comparable models to follow, and success depended on state money coming through. It didn't. Welfare reform had started in the meantime, sending mothers of the targeted kids into the work force.

So they spent $34 million or $50,000 per kid and the program flopped because taxpayers weren't gouged more and welfare mothers had to go to work? Good grief.

(I love this part)....................the senator was dazzled by a state-of-the-art recording studio and photography lab.

"State-of-the-art" electronics from 1995 is NOW archaic, irrelevant junk. Heheheh.

"Tah ray za" is a good example of someone who has no real stake in the future of this country other than her inherited wealth. These airplane "accidents" like the one that took Ron Brown to his reward seems to be what happened to her first mate. Otherwise, why would the switch to the Dimocrat laugh-in have been so easy.
