The March 14 editorial "Disarming Iraq's Militias" contains some misinformed criticism of the interim Iraqi constitution regarding security forces. The Kurdish pesh merga are not going to demobilize by June 30; that is why "no plan has been announced."

The pesh merga have reduced their numbers since prewar mobilization, but they will remain at a level to guarantee the security of the people in the autonomous region of the north until such time as the Kurdistan Regional Government believes it is possible to further reduce them or until they are resubordinated to some other Iraqi central authority.

We don't need a Kurdish militia, we need an independent, nuclear-armed, democratic Kurdish state. That would fix the Arabs.
