I don't have pity for people like this.
Pity has nothing to do with it. WE are better than this. As I have stated on other posts, we don't judge our behavior to those of our enemy, we judge our behavior by OUR standards.
It is illegal as determined by OUR civilian leaders who our military answers to.
Right or wrong, it is STUPID! It places our guys in more danger by inflaming the population unnecessarily.

So what are the Arabs going to do in retaliation? Blow up the World Trade Center or the Pentagon with airliners full of innocent - Oh, they already did that, didn't they?

Wake up! We need to torture these people for about twenty years so THEY WILL FEAR US. They will never love us, much less respect us.

Take a lesson from WWII. If we hadn't had Patton telling his troops to "take no prisoners," we'd all be speaking German now.

Nobility is a luxury we can't afford. We are at WAR.

Thank you.

I've been saying the exact same thing.

Right on! This kind of behavior is wrong regardless of who the enemy is. (Not that ANYBODY knows for a fact that the man in the picture is an enemy.)

This is sad. Once upon a time, such things didn't have to be explained to people.

I am very encouraged by the outrage our nation has shown over the actions of these out-of-control prison guards. This is a sense of outrage that was absent (or very limited) when Clinton was having sex with interns in the White House, when thugs were rioting after courts rendered decisions (take your choice, Rodney King, the Cincinnati police trial, OJ, any sports championship in the last decade), when network television was slowly losing any standard of decency throughout the 90's, etc..

This is not an isolated incident, as there seems to be a growing reaction to low standards: e.g. Janet Jackson's breast, Howard Stern, Martha Stewart, etc.. I believe we are seeing somewhat of a cultural backlash against the 1990's. I know this is probably unduly optimistic of me, but I have to have to be optimistic or I will become a complete nihilist.

I wish I could go farther and believe that those on the left truly have realized that the moral standards of this nation are disappearing, but a little voice keeps telling me that if Gore were president this Iraqi prison story would not be a front page news in the US.

That's right. Just as long as the rest of the world stops acting as if we are the only ones who should be held accountable for, and pay dearly for, abuse of prisoners.

WE are better than this.

It's war. If my child were riding in a Hummvee around Fallujah waiting for a roadside bomb to send him to me in a plastic bag, I would care even less about "hazing" in a prison full of terrorists.
