May 14, 2004 -- In a bizarre twist, the anti-American TV station al-Jazeera is questioning the "authenticity" of the horrific video of American Nick Berg's beheading - suggesting it's a fake to divert attention from the Iraqi prison abuse scandal.

I saw that video and if it was fake then it puts all of Hollywood to shame in the "special effects" department.

It's obviously NOT fake, however I did notice a few things that got me wondering.

As they mentioned it didn't appear that he was struggling much and it didn't seem like there was much blood.

Notice teh time stamp discrepancy. IIRC it starts out around 2:40 something, then jumps to 13:40 something while they are ranting. When the actual decapitation takes place the stamp is back at 2:something.

Those aren't the correct times but you get the idea. I wondered if they "rehersed" this repeatedly over several hours...played mental games with Berg. Did it over and over making him think it was just another propaganda video.

I also wondered if they drugged him and that's why he didn't struggle as much as I would have thought.

The video I saw was poor quality, however, I must honestly admit, there sure seemed to be a lack of blood....

The blood was hard to see against the brown coloring of the floor, but there was plenty of it.

Berg didn't put up much of a struggle because he was bound and pinioned down by the weight of the murdering scum.

The struggle was in his voice, in his scream.

Also, it seemed to me, the butcher with the knife did the deed with an experienced hand ... he knew what to do and how to do it ... he'd obviously done it before.

Okay, okay... we're all laughing at this, sure (and for obvious reasons).

However: bop over to That Certain Other Supposedly "Conservative" Web Site Whose Members Seem Oddly Fixated With This One, and you'll read numerous postings -- from (purportedly) sane and educated people, mind; people allowed to own and operate motor vehicles, and associate with small children -- baldly stating that "the tape is a fake" because "the so-called 'Muslims' in it have non-Arabic stances and body postures," and similarly googly-eyed ravings.

One whacko conspiracy theory is scarcely any nuttier than the other, really.

I've been avoiding shots of the video, much less the video itself. But it strikes me that the Middle Eastern propagandists are taking liberal conspiracy fantasies as being word for word news..

I saw the video and questioned the blood. When a carotid or jugular vein is cut, the blood will flow. I saw no blood from the head or body. However, the act was obscene to me.
