Now that same sex marriage is on its way to a spurious legality, it is time to ask where does it end? If same sex marriage can be defined by the courts as legal, then why not polygamy, pedophilia, child marriage?

Polygamy, in the traditional sense, doesn't have a cachet..However, just wait until three men, or three women, want to get married....THen....
To all of Lord Devlin's questions, the liberal answer would be a resounding NO. For liberals today, personal individual autonomy and freedom from judgment, moral or societal, are the highest goals. This is exactly why they've endorsed gay marriage. And it is logical in that it would be discriminatory to allow autonomy and the absence of judgment for some but not for others. The goal of post-modern liberalism is a religion-free and value-neutral society. The commandment of modern life is Thou Shalt Not Judge. Conservatives appear to be fighting a hopeless battle. We want a society defined by rules and a shared consensus on faith and family. All of which is in opposition to liberal goals for the life of man today. I do not know if we will be able to ever answer Lord Devlin's questions in the affirmative again. However, the bottom line is a self-centered society has no enduring coherence and a society undergoing cultural and moral disintegration has no prospect of security its existence for more than a few hundred years. Just ask the Romans.
