Catch me on a straight Tequila night,normally around Thanksgiving and/or Columbus day, and you might hear me say some really crude things about the conquest of Native American Indians.
One of my Grandmothers openly despised my brothers and myself, because our Mother was a "quarter-breed".
I am only 45 years old.
People tend to forget how truly pervasive and destructive racism was in our society.That's only partially a good thing.
It will take several more generations distance to really take the pain away.
We, as a society, have made great progress, but it is still a work in progress.I think it illogical to expect instant healing of still gaping open wounds.
Pretending to ignore the scars doesn't work for me,and all I am occasionally upset about is the Genocide and forceful conquest of half of my blood ancestors lands, and one "grandma's" distaste of my tainted blood while growing up a as a "white" child in the USA!
Grandma's long dead now.I never grieved for her.She was a spiteful, hateful woman who called loudly proclaimed herself a Christian, and I trust that God has disposed of her soul properly.
Just a bit of perspective to enable you to dimly understand how deep and long the scars of old racial hatred reach, if you are one of the hated ones.
Give it a few more generations.
You personally have no reason or need to apologize for anything your particular ancestors may or may not have done to anyone else.
It has nothing to do with you, and you yourself carry no racial guilt.
But until several more generations have lived and died,we will all feel the stings of the fruits of our ancestors.
That's just the way it is.

Hi abigail2,Bill has always been for education,he spoke at Temple at my son's graduation.Teens of all color speak their own language,Bill has not been around them for awhile.I work with a lady from Liberia,I say what,she justs goes on and on,it is thier culture but the most beautiful is the American black woman,so spiritual and together for the most part as the rest of us..
