Agreed. Operation Market-Garden was probably the worst scheme ever drawn up by Monty. Having said that, in reading Hamilton's biography of Monty, you find that the operation might have gone better if there had been more cooperation between Monty's HQ and Eisenhower's HQ.
Monty thought if there was a coordinated allied strike in the north into Germany the War could have been over at least 6 months earlier. Of course we will never really know what might have been. Monty never backed the American Army going one way and the British another. It was another case of politics and perception. Ike and the American high command did not feel that having Monty in charge of all the Allied Armies was good publicity as most Americans would want American Generals running the show.
