He bought into the whole victim mentality. He claimed he couldn't trust republicans and the democRATs were for the little guy. I repeated provided him evidence to show him the truth, but he cared little for it and would pay it no mind.
Most black Christians vote Democratic because: (1) social issues like abortion and gays aren't politicized (although changing for the latter) as they view economic issues like jobs and "economic justice" as more important and ALSO as moral issues; (2) Democrats are widely viewed as the party for the "little guy," viewed as a moral issue; and (3) Republicans are widely viewed as extremely racist, also viewed as a moral issue. Until the Republicans neutralize the Democrats on points #2 and especially #3 (oh say, by not allowing Democrats to regularly define and demean them in media that most blacks ACTUALLY follow), point #1 won't happen. Black conservatives/Republicans have done a piss-poor job in this regard, not focusing attention to media that their primary target group ACTUALLY follows and not working WITHIN black communities.
