I fail to understand why the pictures show a crucifix. It does not impress me that he posed in front of one and I should think it may offend the Kerry base. I am catholic and a Bush supporter.

Did you know that Kerry was a Catholic? (/sarcasm)

OH.....

And did you know that Kerry was a Viet Nam Veteran? (/sarcasm)

And, oh, did you know that Kerry was a war hero? (/sarcasm)

And, uhm, did you know that John Kerry doesn't even own an SUV? OK, so his family does but that's his wifes car .... HE doesn't own one. (/sarc... oh you get the idea)

^^^^

I truly believe that a lot of antireligion or even "Christophobic" journalists see the crucifix, even a plain cross, as a symol which gives them a visceral negative reaction.

Remember when Ashcroft was mocked for having drapes installed over some nude statues in the hall where Justice Dept press briefings were usually held.
For a cameraman to focus on Ashcroft at a podium and include the bust of the statue in the photo, the photographer had to practically lie on the floor and shoot straight up. This they did. They had the problem with the nude statue, not Ashcroft.

It is the same way with Kerry and crosses. The photogs are supersensitive to them.

I bet there were many ACLUers today who were dreaming of how they can rid our national cemeteries of the cross grave markers.

I've heard the particular church Kerry attends openly endorses gays/gay marriage, priests marrying, etc. Figures... Sadly, I think most Catholics around here are 'cafeteria' Catholics. The words 'social justice' appear frequently in our weekly bulletin. At the 8am mass this morning, our pastor didn't even MENTION Reagan's passage. Nothing. I was dissappointed, but not surprised.

BTW, I thought I heard Bill Clinton's book was coming out this week. Is this true?

It's odd, isn't it? Someone had to say, "Scoot this way or that way so's we can get the crucifix in the background." The decent candidate would have said "No way", whether being instructed by the press or his staff to pose for this photo.
