Did you see that young Army guy, in uniform, with his bandaged arms - the right hand off at the wrist and the left arm off at the elbow - and on crutches to boot - salute the coffin earlier today ? What a sight. God I love our military men !

I was watch around 4:00am central time and a young man walked in wearing civies, stood at attention, and saluted as smartly as I've ever seen it done.

It really got to me.

My son said they should let the older and frail go to the front of the line because the younger people are strong enough to wait longer. He is 11.

You have raised him right, as I hope I have my 14 and 11 year old boys.

That is actually a functional limit of the software, if you try to reply to it, it won't take any more.

That funeral made a tremendous impression on me. I'm not sure how much I actually remember about it as it occured or how much I've picked up over the years. Anyhow, I am surprised by how much I remember.

If I'm not mistaken, the Navy Hymn was played at the foot of some steps, probably as the casket arrived or departed the Capitol. Jackie Kennedy was so atuned to the historical significance of those solemn days, so aware of every detail of protocol and yet determined to personalize it for her husband's memory. She selected the Navy Hymn to signify his military service and I'm almost positive there was bagpipe music at Arlington in honor of his Irish heritage.

So what? This is a family in mourning, and I'd ask for a little peace. I'm sorry if it's beyond you or others to ask that they not be nit-picked at this particular time.

You don't have to be so hostile, ya know. And I wasn't nitpicking. I was just pointing out that many people have mentioned this, not just the one person you picked on.

The fact that Michael was sitting where he was in relation to the others was brought up on FOX and discussed with someone who knows a little about the Reagan's. There have been problems. Hopefully, they will be able to put some of it behind them.

You've already replied to me about this. I'm willing to let it go, are you?

I stayed up late last night and got to see the replay on C-Span of the state service. So I got to see Mrs. Thatcher curtsy finally and the rest that paid their respects that FOX didn't show...Rep. Hastert, Brian Mulroney and Dan and Marilyn Quayle. I taped FOX yesterday but wish I had taped more of C-span instead.

Got to see President and Mrs. Bush show up to pay their repects today. That would have been something to be standing in line and then see them come in!

I agree on the bagpipes. I recently watched the movie "The Longest Day" and there was that British unit led by a piper that marched through the gunfire to relieve the airborne troops guarding the river bridge (Lyon?). A young Sean Connery said the line "it takes an Irishman to play the pipes" (or something like that).

I really liked that movie. It had everyone including John Wayne, whom I love. :) Thanks for the freepmail.

Well, I've been watching too. And if you were watching on Monday, you would have clearly seen Michael Reagan with the rest of the family. I think you're looking for opportunities to see things that aren't there.

Well it's possible you're wrong. Michael evidently did not get along with the mother who adopted him, Jane Wyman, when younger and went to live with Ronald and Nancy Reagan. And Nancy and Michael did not get along during that time.

Patti was always rebellious and she and Nancy didn't get along either, though they do now. Patti resented the fact that her family was a public one. Michael has always wanted to be more a part of the family with Ronald and Nancy. Heard this on FOX today. Britt Hume asked the same questions people here were asking of a woman who wrote a book about the Reagan's and their marriage. The above is what she said.

I can't recall the full name of the book that Michael wrote. Was it "On the Outside Looking In"?

Looks as though that is still the case, perhaps more than ever. Hardly call that gracious or faithful to her husband's memory.

I'm sorry. I was just trying to catch up from about 300 post back and noticed comments were still being made. I tend to read the whole thread and forget to look at the current posts.

I had just heard this stuff on FOX within the hour which is why I mentioned it.

And I hope all the ones saying there are problems are wrong.
I hate to see things like that in families. Especially for all the public to see as well. If there were problems in the past I hope the are mended now.

I won't mention it anymore. Again, I'm sorry.

I haven't read it. LOL, I just told CR I wouldn't mention it anymore.

I hope if it was true, they have made or will make peace with one another.
