Minneapolis has the second largest Somali population in the US behind NYC. They work everywhere - most often in parking ramps, at the airport, and as taxi drivers.

If there is any strong connections between Somali's and Al Qaeda then I'm sure they're under scrutiny here. Recently, a student at the UofM was taken into Federal custody after being busted as an Al Qaeda operative.

As previously stated on many occasions, it has been revealed that Somali taxi cab drivers routinely drive cabs up to the doors of the Port Columbus International Airport throughout the day, without ever going through a security check enroute.

You, on the other hand, are required to park your car 300 yds or more from the terminal.

Security at the airport, is good inside the terminal, and almost non-existant outside the terminal.

This is from 2002 but I have always read that we (Mpls) have the largest Somali population.

We have 1,200 (if not more by now) of Somali's living in Lewiston, Maine.  Last I heard, 49 were working.  The rest of them are on state welfare.

MINNEAPOLIS — A man accused of providing support to Al Qaeda (search) trained in martial arts and with weapons, taught English to Al Qaeda members and joined the Taliban (search) front lines, according to an FBI affidavit.

Terror suspect Mohammed Warsame, 30, twice saw combat with front line units of the Taliban while in Afghanistan and once sat next to Usama bin Laden (search) at a meal, said the affidavit, which investigators said was based on interviews with Warsame.

"The defendant stated that bin Laden was very inspirational," according to the affidavit.

The Somalia-based Islamic group Al-Itihaad al-Islamiya operates a fund-raising arm in the metropolitan area which has raised money from Somalis, according to a federal law enforcement official and local Somalis.

Some Somalis said that those who contributed in Minnesota thought the group was a charity.
