Let's try to figure this one out ...
The so-called "surrogate mother," whom I gather actually is the mother, is the legal mother of (A) four children by one man, (B) a fifth child by another man, as well as (C) three other children.
The man who is the father of the four children is their primary caregiver, and I suppose in line to become his custodial parent.
Likewise, the man who is the father of the one child is his primary caregiver, and presumably in line to become their custodial parent.
This makes the woman the non-custodial parent of five children, as well as, I suppose, the custodial parent of the three others.
Being the non-custodial parent of five children, this woman will have rights of visitation and obligations of child support. In our brave new world of mix and match families, the calculation of child support is simply a formula based on the incomes of the parents, number of dependents, etc.
NOW ISN'T IT OBVIOUS what marriage is about? It's about the children.
Churches that celebrate the love of persons joining into partnerships, other than men marrying women, are saying that the happiness of the future persons to come into the world by reason of these marriages are of lesser concern.
This makes children into objects for the happiness of others.
But, children are not objects for the happiness of others. They are person, albeit vulnerable persons in need of guardianship.
While we cannot stop people from going and doing all kinds of fool things, we should avoid sanctifying foolishness.
She certainly should be paying child support for all 5 children --- non-custodial fathers don't get to get out of that --- any parent who abuses or neglects their children should have to undergo sterilization.
