LOS ANGELES The Lollapalooza music festival (search) tour has been canceled just three weeks before it was supposed to start.
Tour organizer Perry Farrell (search) writes on the tour's official Web site that his "heart is broken" from scrapping the tour. He blamed poor ticket sales.
The tour co-founder, Marc Geiger, says he's in "utter disbelief" that fans weren't buying tickets for what he says was "the most exciting line-up" he's seen in years.
The tour would've featured Morrissey (search), Sonic Youth, P.J. Harvey (search) and the Flaming Lips, among others.
Fans who bought tickets will get full refunds.

No, "Gargling Girls" was here heart stopping debut. It was hard to beat.

It's all Bush's fault, of course, that all these lefty fans are unemployed and can't afford to buy the tickets they desperately want.
To: Lunatic Fringe
It was good back then, no?
It has gone downhill, rapidly picking up speed, in the last 5-6 years.

Morrisey? Geez, if I want to hear a sixty-year-old man whine and moan, I can go kick my dad.

Flaming Lips are great, but there's no way I'd sit through the rest of those losers to hear them.
I'll catch them on their own tour.

That's a lousy lineup. The best "new" bands out right now are Jet, POD, Puddle of Mud, White Stripe, etc.

Lot of rumors that Led Zeppelin would go back on tour. Their ticket sales would easily dwarf just about any band that came around in the past 10 years or so.
To: Southack
Don't forget Disturbed. :)

When I saw this thread, that's what I thought "It's still around?". Have to admit I went twice. Those years were a little hazy, but the only bands worth mention were:
1994
Smashing Pumpkins
Beastie Boys
George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars
1995
Cypress Hill
Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Sonic Youth closed out the 1995 show, and from what I remember, they had a pretty good stage show.

Yeah, those other bands are boring. Have you been to the Flaming Lips website? You can listen to their entire CD (most recent release) online. It is pretty slick.

Those bands get the air time. IMO the *best rock* bands out right now can only be seen sparingly on MTV2. Bands like Clutch, Damageplan etc.
Clutch in particular is fun as hell.

In liberal California its a flop? Wow, I must say if they find no takers in a heavily Blue State, this is good news indeed. We needed it!

HA! This is their "exciting lineup"? That's a roster of some of the most whiny, annoying performers in music today.

I forget what year it was I went, but the lineup then included Metallica and Soundgarden, which is the only reason I bought tickets and sat in 105 degree heat all day.
