Nice response, but you never answered my other question. I am curious why I am assumed to be dangerous when carrying a gun, and you are not? Are cops above the law?
I just noticed that you are new here. Welcome aboard.
You seem to be one of the good guys, but I also see that you seem to have been taught some things that go against my constitutional grain. I understand officer safety and care about it, but when civil rights are trampled in the process, I tend not to care as much.
Do you have open carry in OK? If so, would you feel justified in questioning every citizen who did so? Would you ignore a person with a weapon because they wore a police or security uniform? If so, all I need do is rent, buy or steal a uniform if I'm intent on committing a crime in your jurisdiction.
I'm not trying to be a smart ass. Just trying to make a point. Who is above suspicion and who isn't? More police officers are convicted of crimes every year in this nation than private citizens with CCW permits. Did you know that? As a class, we are your best citizen and the one most likely to come to the aid of an officer in danger.
I know that you can't tell at a distance who is and isn't a good guy, but all too often even after it is established that we are peacable citizens, harassment continues as though we, or our guns, are the problem.
We've gone far afield of the original topic. Thanks for an honest debate. We disagree, but if you keep an open mind, you'll see where you're wrong. ;-) We're here to help.
I am not saying everyone is dangerous when carrying a weapon...everyone who carries is a liability issue even police officers. And I have a little saying "No one is above the law and no one is below the law".
Thank you...however I don't know if we have an open carry law here or not, I will research that and let you know for sure. But I can say this if some one is acting suspicious then I feel, as a police officer, like I should confront that person. And I do agree this is getting off the topic of Click it or ticket....take care.
>>Hell, while we're getting rid of all the seatbelt laws, let's get rid of the ones for licensing drivers, and licensing vehicles? What business is it of the government if I own a car, or know how to drive? And, while we're at it, let's get rid of those stupid laws that say I can't get all tanked up on booze and go cruisin' - it's nobody's business but mine...
You have no God-given, inalienable right to drive. If you want to, you have to deal with the restrictions provided by the state, or don't drive.<<
We want to check what's in your trunk, sparky...
Yeah, I know. There is a standard FR insult along those lines, with a "dope"-type inference, but it never seems to stick. Like "Shangefreund" (or whatever) I can't seem to keep these terms at the ready.
Sorry for the poor insult. I'l try to do better (I probably need to keep a handy spreadsheet).
That term is applied to those who haven't mastered the goosestep, yet!
Pull off a highway exit ramp - there they are. And everywhere else. Eyeballing you, looking for your seatbelt, your emissions sticker, registration stickers, any "safety violation" you may be committing... or maybe just a random stop to check "your papers".
Recently I was pulled over and the first question LE asks is where are you going?" Told her I was going to a friends house "What is the address?" Hell I don't know "Get out of the vehicle"
Yep, and in the end I got a Ticket for not wearing my seatbelt, and lectured about my language.
Such a perfect post, it just needs to be repeated
Call me a whacky liberal, even though I'm not.
LOL..no you are not a liberal. But there are two kinds of conservatives. One believes in small non-intrusive government, especially federal. The other believes in just as much intrusion in your life as liberals, but over different issues. Cannot tell which one you are over just one issue, but I am rabidly the former. For me freedom isn't everything, its the only thing.
I remember as a child riding in the back of a pickup (usually on dirt roads, but not always) standing up with my face in the breeze. Fond memories. Today if someone did that the parents would be in prison for child abuse for twenty years and I would be getting raped by my foster parents.
If feel bad people younger than me will never again experience those freedoms. But maybe a new freedom will rise of the ashes of this currently pathetic society where everyone is afraid of their own shadow.
