On Tuesday, the Senate is scheduled to begin consideration of legislation to limit class action lawsuits -- a prime candidate for so-called liberal "killer amendments," including the Feinstein amendment to extend the ban on semiautomatic firearms and magazines.
Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has threatened to offer her semi-auto ban to any "appropriate" legislative vehicle, and the class action bill is about as "appropriate" as any on the Senate's legislative schedule.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) has, at his disposal, a variety of parliamentary techniques to prevent Feinstein from offering the semiautomatic ban. Back in March, he chose NOT to use these parliamentary maneuvers during the debacle over the ill-fated gun makers' protection act.
The debate over this pro-gun bill resulted in a free-for-all which led to killer amendments being added to the bill -- amendments like the Feinstein gun ban.
GOA is urging Frist to learn from his mistakes and to use his leadership office to insure that the Feinstein amendment is not offered to S. 2062.
America is at a crossroads on the Second Amendment. If the pro-gun community can succeed in killing the extension of the semi-auto ban (due to expire on September 13) we will have inflicted a serious blow on the anti-gun zealots -- a blow from which they will not soon recover.
If, on the other hand, Feinstein is successful in forcing her amendment to the president's desk, Bush has indicated that he will sign the ban -- and the pro-gun community will be on the defensive and facing the anti-gunners' next priority: a comprehensive gun registration scheme.
ACTION: Please contact Senate Majority Leader Frist. Tell him to use whatever parliamentary tools are necessary to block consideration of the Feinstein semi-auto ban -- particularly as an amendment to the class action bill.

Thanks for your response. I expect that the USA is going to become more civilized and polite as more and more Americans obtain their CHL's even though they do not believe the Government had the power to ban carry in the first place.
In the cases where the State denies the applicant a CHL for some reason, the "OHIO CARRY" option is still available in Ohio and, quite frankly, I frequently "Open Carry" in support of them even though I have my CHL. Plus, in order to comply with Ohio's Law, I need to "OPEN CARRY" when riding my Motorcycle! (Does the Uncle Remus Story about B'rer Rabbit and the Briar patch come to mind?)

I was watching the movie The Majestic (with Jim Carrey) yesterday and there was one part that really caught me. The lawyer (I think) for Carrey's character told him that the Constitution is a contract with the American people and that like all contracts is open to renegotiation. Seems that a lot of people believe that whether by choice or because it was ingrained into them. What we need is more people like Carrey's character, that are willing to stand up no matter what the possible reprucussions and state that the Constitution is a contract that is not open to renegotiation.
Thats funny, a constitution is supposed to be superior to a "contract" just like a constitutional amendment trumps a mere law.
Odd how VT is the only state where there is no need for a permit to carry a gun.
Last I heard Alaska was working on this also.
VT came about in the early 1900's pretty much like the "OHIO CARRY" came about in 2003. Not through the Legislature and the Governor signing a bill into law, but by a Supreme Court Ruling from the early 1900's that effectively said people in VT have the right carry guns wherever they wanted as long as they do not intend to use them in the commission of a crime. If you rob a gas station with a gun in VT, you get charged with robbery plus illegal possession of a firearm.
Ohio's Supreme court got too loose with their pen in writing their decision in Klein v. Leis (25-SEPT-2003). They were trying to have their cake and eat it too by saying that it is illegal to carry concealed guns, thinking that people would never even want to openly carry. They effectively declared the right to Open Carry a firearm is a Basic Fundamental Right in Ohio. While many considered this to be a set-back for the efforts to reclaim the right to Concealed Carry in Ohio, I personally started touting this as a GREAT VICTORY!
The Ohio Supreme Court had Pronounced that citizens of Ohio could Openly Carry Firearms as a Basic Fundamental Right with no need for Training, Licenses, Fees, regulations, limits, etc. This ruling and our reaction were undoubtedly instrumental in the Legislature and Governor passing and signing the new CHL law.
The "Open Carry" option is still available to anyone who is denied a CHL due to some stupid reason such as a 25 year old drug possession conviction, etc. While not able to carry in a car, they could follow the "Ohio Carry" procedures which we carefully spelled out to assure that they will be able to possess and carry firearms for their self defense and security.
ALASKA: Alaska, I believe, just declared by Law that everybody can carry "VT Style" PLUS they began issuing Licenses to qualified applicants which gave then Alaska Citizens the ability to be recognized in other states or to qualify for Non-Resident Licenses in other States, something that has been a problem for the citizens of VT.

Looks like the Communist from California, Diane Feinstein, isn't going to let up one iota on eroding our American inalienable rights that are GUARANTEED in the U.S. Constitution which SHE took an oath to uphold!
A large core of the Republican Party was highjacked several years ago by left-wingers, (progressives,liberals, communists, Trotskyites, etc.), when the Republicans took over both Houses in '94. They like to refer to themselves as "moderates" or Neo-Cons, but they seem to vote more with liberal Democrats than true Conservatives. It's best we concentrate more on educating our fellow citizens and neighbors on OUR INALIENABLE RIGHTS that are ETCHED IN STONE. I don't care what Bills may come before Congress or what "opinion" the Supreme Court may render, I will NOT abide by it, period.
Absolutely right about the Left Wingers of the Republican Party. In Ohio, we finally got rid of Democrat Senator Metzenbaum and Senator Glenn, only to get 2 RINO's in Senator DeWine And Senator Voinovich.
But, in the past 20 years, the new technology boom has toppled the Soviet Union from within by FAX communications, The Chinese Government is under attack from within due to the Cellular Phone Text Messaging, and the Truth about Guns is being regularly spread over the Internet in Gun Grabbing countries like England, Australia, and Canada. Life is Good and the wider spread use of the Internet is going to make it better.
The USA needs to be run by "We the People" and not by the Liberal Politicians who want to take away our guns.
