We (at least I) am not blaming the whole generation for anything. But without looking at the demographics, the cultures you cannot determine a course of action.

The majority of GenXers who voted for Clinton are not the same animal as the Baby Boomers who voted Carter and then Reagan. Two different approaches, two different effects on the society all understood by understanding the generation.

Here is a good example of a demographic study, the fact that GenXers Vote majority democrat does not mean ALL GenXers vote democrat - it just helps us understand what we are working with.

I don't think there is an indictment on EVERY SINGLE INDIVIDUAL of the Boomer generation.

That would be akin to saying all Catholics (by association) were responsible for the Inquisition.
