maybe Iran has completed its hidden franco-sino-paki-iraqi nuclear processing plant and the AQ diversion footsoldiers can go home now.
A lame duck Bush doesn't have to worry about the political fall-out of nuking Iran's nukes.

Just some chaff to satisfy the Saudis, pissed off that the AQ assets warehoused in Iran with the security services there for the past two years were impertinent enough to start ordering attacks in Saudi Arabia itself.
What the Iranians did to encourage this, I don't know. But I expect they had a hand in some double-dealing.
BTW, most of the recent bombings, Turkey, Spain, etc., have been traced back to figures in Iran.
Also, it's nothing new. Iranians have said for two years that they've "detained" AQ. The Iran/Afghan border story is probably bogus, but offers plausible deniability given the context of repeated stories that AQ "leaders" are in the mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
It will be interesting to see who these "detainees" are.
