Anyone who has used the National Archives, and I have accessed both classified and unclassified material, knows that what Berger did was a crime. One does not move anything, I repeat ANYTHING, from the archives. Berger is a criminal, and should be charged. If it were me, I'd be toast.

You are right, you certainly would be. Just ask the guys at research labs all over the country what the security is like and what happens to them if they "accidentally" removed any classified info.

The biggest hurdle is that most people don't understand what it takes to get security clearances, much less to have access on a need to know basis. The leftists are counting on people not knowing the procedures.

Berger, as NSA Advisor, knew what he was doing. If he didn't, that might even be a worse crime -- not knowing the legalities of handling classified material.

I am just hoping that this doesn't get swept under the rug -- thanks to David Rodham Gergen this morning, that is certainly a possibility. That means, we all need to scream all the louder about this.

It is simply not credible that Berger - former National Security Director - did not know that (a) his notes were derivative in the formal sense, (b) that he had "two or three" copies of the same document in his portfolio, and that (c) he had stuffed other classified materials into his pants and coat pockets.

Above all, it's not credible that he did this innocently or without premeditation.
