Ship master may refer to the individual who is flown or boated out to the ship to steer it through the bay, river, etc. Usually someone local to the area that knows the water ways.

We used to get these guys on board when I was in the navy.

My brilliant daughter just pointed out that the Amtrak train stopped this morning was bound from Philadelphia.

Ahh, I did not know that... thanks for the information.

As per Fox, the Captain is refusing a boarding to allow a search.

A new man-made reef might just be in order.

... what is the difference between ship's master & captain?

Usually one & the same ... however, at times, it may also be a reference to the ship's owner ... not the Captain of the vessel.

Yes but they could have stopped it before it entered the port for US law to apply.

Yeah, I saw that piece. Kind of ironic that this story was a followup to it.

Can't we get the equivalent of an LA freeway car chase news video going. Where is eyewitness news when you need it. Need a copter over the ship.

I hope the Coast Guard doesn't follow airport security procedures, or they'll go find an eighty year old black woman in a rowboat and search her to prove they aren't profiling.

I remember that movie (if I remember right they blew up Charleston)...it was taped as if it was actually happening. Freaked out some folks, just like War of the Worlds did.

"Excuse my ignorance of nautical terms - what is the difference between ship's master & captain?"

They're the same thing. So the story right now is that the ship's master(captain) informed authorites a bomb was onboard and is now refusing to allow the ship to be searched.

Ya USED to have to score high on a TEST to be certified, but this guy is crazy, stupid or both.
