GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Sen. John F. Kerry yesterday charged that President Bush is inadvertently aiding terrorist recruitment as a result of his foreign policy. The Bay State senator said terrorist recruiters and schools are citing Bush administration actions ``as a means of recruitment. ``The policies of this administration, I believe, and others believe, very deeply, have resulted in an increase of animosity and anger focused on the United States of America,'' Kerry said on the campaign trail.
Earlier, Kerry told CNN, ``I believe this administration, in its policies, is actually encouraging the recruitment of terrorists.'' Bush refuted Kerry's charges during a Rose Garden press conference, saying it was a ``misunderstanding of the war on terror.'' ``Evidently some must think that you can negotiate with (terrorists), you can talk sense to them, you can hope that they change,'' he said. ``It is a ridiculous notion to assert that because the United States is on the offense, more people want to hurt us.'' The president also said he's taken many steps to overcome new threats in the past three years.
At his press conference, Kerry called for a special session of Congress to enact reforms suggested by the Sept. 11 commission. Although Bush yesterday endorsed some of the recommendations, including the creation of a national intelligence czar, Kerry slammed the move as coming too late. The comments came a day after the Homeland Security Department issued terror warnings for specific financial institutions. ``The terror alert yesterday just underscores that if we're being serious about this, we have to move on every possible option to make our nation as safe as possible,'' Kerry said. ``The time to act is now.''
At a town hall event at the Grand Rapids Fire Department, part of his bus tour across the country, Kerry echoed his criticisms. ``We need leadership, not followship,'' he said.
"...and others believe, very deeply...."
Brief but illustrative example of Kerry's senatorial rhetorical style. He can't just say "I believe". He has to allude to unknown "others," and they can't just believe, they have to believe "very deeply." Oh, and what you said.
``We need leadership, not followship,'' he said.
Followship? Did he really say that? I thought he was ed-gee-cated.
Has John Kerry lost his mind or is it a collective mind loss by all democrats, This POS who came home from Viet nam and joined Jane Fonda in making coming home hell for Viet Nam veterans,is now doing the same thing in this war, aiding and comforting the enemy and now he has the gall to try to spin it on George Bush?
As he calls for Leadership I keep looking for when he has exhibited leadership , after 19 years in the senate we find that he snowboards and windsurfs, but we have seen no legislation with his name on it.
Do any of the dems ever think this stuff through? Since the 911 murders of 3000 Americans, animosity an anger have increased? And yet there have been no attacks? Rave on Johnny, the more you spew, the dumber you sound.
What? He's not happy enough to have a -1 post comvention "bounce"?
Over the weekend, my Brother-in-law mentioned to me that "practically the first thing Bush did after he got elected was go and start attacking other countries!"
I didn't even bother to suggest that maybe 9/11 had something to do with it. This guy knows that its all Bush's fault, and I don't argue with him.
He left out the reason recruitment is even needed is because we are killing them hand over fist.
Licorice: "At least, Sen. John Kerry respects rodents."
"...Kerry echoed his criticisms. ``We need leadership, not followship,'' he said.""
What the.....what a POS. He's becoming incoherent as well as more and more Ichabod Crane.
Anyone asked Jean yet why he couldn't be bothered to attend all those Senate intell committee meetings and/or hearings he missed?
I'm really beginning to believe, very deeply I might add, that John Kerry is a complete DOOFUS.
Kerry: "This is Lake Michigan.
Someday this too will be owned by Europe again,
Mozambique, the UN, or us ....., I mean, you."
Kerry hammers hamsters prez on terror...?
:)
As opposed to 8 years of Klinton where the terrorists were allowed to attack us at will because, well, "it's a law enforcement issue".
This from a Senator who decided to miss most terror updates and said he was too busy for the terror breifing offered by the Bush Administration. We cannot afford to have him in the WH for the next four years.
John Kerry, the DemocRAT party and 10 out of 10 Terrorist agree.
Anybody, but Bush!
Well sure! Isn't everything???
