He could have offered a simple, brief defense of it. It's not hard. He offered no protection for Hastert-- a leader of the GOP.

He did, he said he is for simplifying the tax code. Anything else is a hornet's nest for a public that can't pay attention beyond a 30 second sound bite. Have you heard all of the complaining already? The poor will be hurt the most, the lower middle class next, the middle class next, until finally the rich win. The plan is far too complex and has too much merit to be killed in the current political environment. The time will come for the idea.
