Caught On Tape: Cops Use Taser Gun On Man Trying To Get Home
POSTED: 7:42 am EDT August 17, 2004 UPDATED: 1:06 pm EDT August 17, 2004
FORT MYERS, Fla. --
Officers in hurricane-ravaged Fort Myers used a Taser gun on a man allegedly trying to get by a police barrier to get home, and it was caught on tape.
A crowd formed around the scene and voices can be heard yelling, "Leave him alone," "That is so wrong," and "Come on man, he's frustrated."
The man had three children in the car with him. Many in the crowd felt for the man who hasn't seen his home in days.
Many of the police officers are in the same situation.
It's not known exactly what led up to police using the Taser gun. You can take a look at the video to the right to see how things ended.
There are a number of police agencies offering assistance in the Fort Myers area. It's not clear from the tape which police department was involved.

I try to be supportive of the police, but this is one of those things that make it hard for me to do so. It doesn't give a whole lot of detail, but if they did this to simply stop this man from driving back to his home, then I hope he sues the crap out of them and brings in the ACLU. I'm sure they are keeping people from returning from their homes for safety reasons, but that is not their concern. If someone wants to go back to their house that is their right. The police should not have the right to stop them. Neil Boortz was just commenting yesterday, that this is the reason why a lot of people will not evacuate when hurricanes come because they know they will kept from returning to their houses for days if there is destruction in their neighborhood.

He also tried to run over some cops. That's what pissed them off.

Road Closed.....EXCEPT for me!

Stuff like this just makes me want to tape the danged taser to the el-stupido do-gooder cop's forehead and plug it into a 220V outlet, unplug him when the fat stops sizzlin and starts to smoke.
What a Maroon!
Yep, he's a public servant alright. Probably pissed cause he won't make his click-it or ticket quota this month.
Have at me LE, you defend the idiot.

Is there something about the phrase "inalienable right"...(to)..."life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" (originally = property) that you disagree with? IMHO, if a property owner decides to risk his life to go to his property, the state has no constitutional right to interfere.

He also tried to run over some cops. That's what pissed them off. Of course he did. And if there was a dog in the van it would have "advanced on the officers in a threatening manner"

Public safety is the main police concern.

NO DAMNIT!!
CIRCUMSTANCES BE DAMNED[unless those circumstances favor a slanted story against law and order]!!!
These so called "cops"[more like crazed pitt bulls with badges] are nothing more than a band of roving hooligans who attacked an innocent, peace loving, free Man who was simply trying to get a stuffed Teddy Bear for his dear sweet little daughter[or something to that affect].

He disobeyed the individuals given the authority to stop him....authority given to those individuals by elected government officials....government officials elected by...the public**.
I'd say that was the problem.

That's fine.
The individual involved has complete access to the Law and the Courts. He is free to bring his case before a Constitutionally placed Judge and -if- your "HO" is correct, he will win.
Please...ping us all when that occurs.

Yeah, didn't he realize the cops get the opportunity to pick out the good stuff first?
