Most people did, but it wasn't good for the film. Now Polaroid prints a warning to NOT shake the pictures while they are developing. :D
It has nothing to do with Polaroid--it's a simile for shaking your body (as in dancing) as referred to in the song "Hey Ya" by Outkast.
