With documented proof recently provided by the FBI through the Freedom Of Information Act it is proved that John Kerry met with Communist North Vietnamese negotiators and Viet Kong representatives in Paris in 1971 while Kerry was still in the Navy Reserves (still in the military). Kerry could be standing face to face with a 10 ton Gorilla when the Swifties hammer him with this one.

There is another, perhaps more troubling aspect to all of this. As a former Marine, I know that the standard term for ALL members of the Armed Forces is SIX years. Yes, that's right, SIX years. In theory, a person entering the military in, say, 1968, would still be IN the service until 1972 - at the earliest (the exact date/time is computed by using the persons Active Duty Base Date - ADBD, which is contained in the records kerry will not release.) The exact mechanism is this, every person who enters the military has a 6 year obligation. If the person immediately goes into active duty and completes their obligated tour of duty - say 4 years, upon completion of their active duty tour they are transferred into the IRR - Individual Ready Reserve. There are no drill or attendance requirements for the IRR, BUT the person CAN be called up at any time until the entire 6 year obligation is finished. A person who opts to be a Reservist is, after training, ordered to a Reserve Unit for a minimum period of 2 years - during which the person MUST drill. My question is, since the standard obligated tour of duty is 6 years, and kerry entered the service in 67 - or thereabouts, he would have STILL BEEN A COMMISSIONED US NAVAL OFFICER when he gave his testimony to the Senate, and possibly whenever he met with the commies. That is TREASON. His testimony was, at least, SEDITION. And now, my friends, you know why kerry will NEVER release his official military records.

Thanks to the Swifts, the problem that faced Nixon (and the Justice Department and the Defense Dept.) in '71 won't face voters today: How does anyone enforcing the LAW (whether Military Code of Justice or the U. S. Constitution) act against a bemedaled hero? His medals gave him the cover and the confidence and the armor to make the claims and attend the meetings he did. The Swifts, rather brilliantly, I think, decided to put the cart back behind the horse where it belonged. Discredit the medals (which NO ONE had dared to question before), THEN go after the crimes. And if the insufferable egotist hadn't gone after the presidency (NEVER MIND in the WAY he went after the presidency), none of this would have interrupted his meaningless life.

No, the Swifties have about 2.5 million dollars of hard money contributions. They will continue.

A quick description of the electoral college process. The DEM party is on the ballot in all 50 states. When you and I vote, we vote for electors that have already been chosen by the parties. In December, the electors cast their ballots for the candidate that the party tells them to cast for.

So, you are correct. There does NOT have to be a candidate on the ballot, in November. But that does not mean the "no candidate" party won't put their (to be determined in time) person in the office.

The only thing the old media is good for anymore is watching Chris Matthews get slapped around. We don't need them anymore. I wish Phil Donahue would interview Zel Miller.

Aren't we about to lose the SwiftVet TV ads on Sept 3 due to McCain / Feingold?

They have much hard money now.

They are replaying the Matthews/Zell interview-hehe very funny. Zell didn't understand Chirs's nuanced interview...also there was a lot of noise. He misunderstood Chris. Told Chris to get out of his face...I suppose the Dems will compare this to the Dem scream..

Are you serious?

Commuchusetts has kept a fat, lying, drunken, murderer who cheated on his bar exams, in the Senate for... 30 years?
And you think they'll bat an eye at their other Esteemed Senator, for committing treason?

I've got a bridge I'd like to sell you...

He came back with their negotiating points!!!!! AND recommended them to the United States Senate--along with a plan to amend the Constitution so that FUNDING for the war could be cut off, immediately. (Very little is original with this guy, and he probably got THAT recommendation from the commies who helped formed VVAW if it didn't come directly from Le Duc Tho or Mme. Binh.)

Thanks, for the article. Even if you are a Democrat, this article is evidence that Kerry is a weak and gullible negotiator. He got run over by a tinpot dictator like Ortega. This makes Carter look like a genius.

A local farmer told me a few years back, when we were discussing Clinton's having turned our nuclear secrets over to the Chinese, that there is no statute of limitations for treason.

There is a lot of speculation on Free Republic about Kerry throwing in the towel, and the Democrats replacing him with someone more electable.

This is a most unrealistic speculation, really. This is true for a number of very persuasive reasons, but perhaps the most persuasive is that barring death, there isn't any reason anywhere near good enough to do such a thing.

And, to pull it off you would have to convince all 50 states to permit the ballots to be changed, implying laws broken or amended either with or without judiciary intervention; and after all that headache and effort they probably couldn't get it done in time. In the process they would have totally alienated the entire electorate.

The election would be an even bigger blowout, an unprecedented disaster for Democrats at all levels of government, Federal to County, and one that they wouldn't recover from for years if not decades.

They would be far better off to take their licks this time around and come back in 2008. And, beleive me, the Democrats are fully aware of this.

Rest easy those fevered imaginations, fellas and gals. There won't be any such "bait and switch". You heard it from me. If I tell you it's raining, you don't need to go check.

Dear Gunny. Yo are SO right. Kerry was without question a commissioned Reserve officer in the United States Navy when he met the Veitnamese in Paris. And when he testified before the Senate wearing his service ribbons on his ersatz fatigues. The man is dirt.
