Bush has admitted being an alcoholic but, asked during the 1999 election if he did drugs, he said: "I've told the American people that years ago I made some mistakes. "I've learned from my mistakes and should I be fortunate enough to become president I will bring dignity and honour to the office." Later an aide clarified his remarks saying Bush hadn't taken illegal drugs in the past 25 years.

I would like to offer a talking point/rebuttal. Everyone has things in their past they are ashamed of. The difference is President Bush learns from his experiences and mistakes. John Kerry doesn't. He has never admitted to or apologized for anything in his past. Who would you prefer to lead our nation someone who can grow and mature or someone who still reacts to things as a juvenile?

I can identify with someone who has lived that line in "Amazing Grace," "Was blind, but now I see," and I like the fact that he's the same man on Saturday night that he is on Sunday morning. -- Zell Miller, RNC Convention
