It wouldn't be that unusual if the gym teacher was in charge of younger children.

Our elementary school had an older gym teacher who was around for ages, and he would lead the little children in basic exercises and simple games of kickball etc.

"Wait a second...a 74 year old man worked as a GYM TEACHER???????" Highly probable. We had an old gym teacher (Coach Sharp) who was at least that old before he retired from our high school. Even then he worked several jobs after retiring as a teacher.

He was in his early 70s when I attended with a body hard as nails; you didn't mess with the coach. He was a great role model and everyone respected him. He died at the age of 101 a few years back and had the biggest turnout for a veiwing I'd ever seen; it took most of the day for the town to pay its respects.

My father, who is 82, said Coach Sharp was a gym teacher when he attended school and my dad though Sharp was old back then.

My father is 71.

He competes in triathalons, runs at least five miles a day and is the fittest person I know.

He substitute teaches, in art, his passion, and I am sad to say he is going to the doctor this week because he's suddenly feeling tired.

Maybe life is catching up to him. I pray it's nothing serious.

He loves life and the children he has taught in his long career. I know he would do the same as this heroic angel.

Some of those old Greek guys are tremendously healthy. I know a retired Greek guy who works as a volunteer at the local public library. I used to see him all the time at the local gym. I quit going to the gym and look it, but he looks like he still goes there regularly.

This particular man must have been a remarkable person in many ways. A real mensch.

My dad still works full time --- heavy kind of work --- and not many could keep up with his schedule --- when he gets home from work, he's out working on cars, mowing the lawn, remodeling the house. And try to keep up with him on a hike. My grandfather didn't retire until age 84 and was more active at that age than many are at 30.
