I think I'm going to get crucified for this, but I'm not sure that the girl should be restricted from wearing the clothing that her religious beliefs require her to wear. I know, for example, that some rules forbid players from wearing certain types of jewelry, such as rings, that might strike another player and cause injury. Simple neck chains are allowed I think, but an array like something from Mr. T's wardrobe would be forbidden. Another example would be a Sikh's ceremonial knife, unless it was plastic or rubber and could be worn under the uni to prevent injury. I do believe in some high schools Jewish kids wear yamulkas while playing.

If you look at most teams you will find that there are variations in uniforms from player to player. In football, some players were different pads that alter the appearance, and linemen's sleeves are sometimes shorter. Eric Gagne of the Dodgers wears his pants all the way down to his shoes, while most teammates expose more of the socks. In basketball some players wear T shirts under their jerseys that expose the sleeve.

As long as the changes don't cause safety issues, and the colors match the uniform, as T shirts must, then I see no reason to bar the girl from wearing the extra items.

On the other hand, if she is denied, it is up to her to make a decision and not cry about the outcome.

For the record, Islam contributes NOTHING positive to Western Culture. However, our society does allow people freedom which is totally unallowed in most Islamic cultures.

Are NCAA basketball players allowed to wear head bands? A scarf probably isn't much different and reasonable accomodation could be made for someone who has convictions (no matter how misguided).

The NCAA bans necklaces for safety reasons. They don't want someone to get chocked.

I actually saw that, and the temp wasn't 110 -- it was more like 120! This was on the beach at Sharm el-Sheikh, Sinai when I was in the MFO. A big gaggle of women from the Gulf States were playing volleyball clad from head to toe in black drapery with only their eyes showing. To add to the incongruity, hot-babe secretaries and teachers and nurses from Europe were topless-tanning themselves only a few feet away.
