So very true. I reported for pilot training in early August 1973. I got washed out for failing my flight physical, and I was far from the only med washout in that class. There were more eliminated for medical reasons than the norm. I didn't stay around long enough to know how many washed out for flying deficiencies, but I would guess that they were much higher than in the late 60's.

They were trying to get rid of pilots and potential pilots in every possible way.

It could be that Burkett (if that is who it is) marked the docs he gave to CBS for emphasis, and CBS or Burkett lined out the address once they decided that the documents should be posted.

Talon News received copies from CBS by fax. They don't have the markings, so CBS at one time had, or still has, "clean" copies.

I wouldn't read anything into the address being blacked out. It was clear that CBS did that for either confidentiality or CYA reasons, but they did such a bad job of blacking the address out that it was still readable.

Rather claims this story has been in the works for years. But it Seems pretty unlikely that it would all come together some 50 days before theelection. That said, this had to be a document dump on the part of some partisan hack. Rather et al. simply couldn't contain themselves.

Document analysts differ over whether the memos..., are genuine and could have been produced by typewriters available at Ellington Air Force Base in Houston in 1972 and 1973. Two retired FBI forensic document examiners who studied the memos at USA TODAY's request said Sunday that they probably are forgeries. Four other authorities interviewed by USA TODAY, including typewriter and type font experts, said the technology existed at the time to create the documents. None of the experts consulted offered an unequivocal opinion.

USAT hired TWO forensic document examiners who said they're probably forgeries. But (then?) they interviewed four more with a different take on it. Amazing how so many media outlets are putting forth "expert" opinions WITHOUT identifying their source! I don't believe I've ever heard of such a thing.

The memos were not underlined or redacted when CBS received them.

In very sloppy journalistic fashion, CBS broadcast unmarked memos, but put different (marked) memos on its website for distribution. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.
