Statement by the President of CBS News, Andrew Heyward:

"We established to our satisfaction that the memos were accurate or we would not have put them on television. There was a great deal of coroborating [sic] evidence from people in a position to know. Having said that, given all the questions about them, we believe we should redouble our efforts to answer those questions, so that's what we are doing."

Well now I guess Teresa Heinz Kerry was right. We are idiots if this statement stands.

There was a time when forged documents meant a crime had taken place. After Clinton they're just suggestions of wrongdoing. No problem

How many lawyers do you think they had in that conference room hauling in $600 an hour and waiting for their catered lunch and cocktails in order to come up with that paragraph?

Not only that, but what the heck did the first 150 drafts look like?

"These allegations are hugh and series. Right now we are stuned off our beebers!"

CBS is obviously divided by this. You don't have to be a fly on the wall to know that some of the big wigs are telling Rather to "PROVE IT!"

It was an interesting decision. It was based on a stations refusal to present both sides of an issue of public importance.

The station refused to present both sides of a controversial issue. FCC revoked the station license.

The Supreme court upheld the right of the FCC to revoke a stations license.

The longer they stonewall the better. Didn't they learn anything from Watergate? I'm enjoying the irony immensely.

Similar thought here. Rather likes to think that he had a hand in taking down Nixon; now he's making the same mistake and errors in judgment that Nixon made. Oh, the irony!

Looks like what they're saying is they believe the 'content' of the memos to be accurate and they talked to 'people' who agree with the content.

They have got to know after all the documented opinions from reputable experts, and even what experts they sought out the memos themselves were fabricated.

Now the most troubling of question I believe is did someone at CBS 'commission' the memos to fit their belief? If not, who 'did' fabricate the memos and why is CBS protecting them?

Juan looks like a deer in the headlights tonight.

The panel is perplexed by the "stonewall."

I just got home from out of town and turned on the CBS news. Then I saw this thread. Does this mean that I am watching Dan Rather for no good reason right now?

Please tell me so that I can turn the station if there is no announcement.

Thanks

2 people on earth think the docs are authentic: Dan Rather and Juan Williams.

Juan is carrying the water for the kool-aid on Special Report.

They wouldn't let him admit any wrongdoing, They wouldn't let him back away from the story, but he's too dazed to come back out swinging. I'd say he's down on one knee, trying to clear his head and decide if he really wants back in this fight.

These guys build suspense for about six hours today, FOR THIS!? It would have been better for them to have said nothing.

I stand by my plagiarized book report."

You just reminded me of a guy in my graduate seminar class who turned in a paper he'd written five years before, as his term project. He didn't even change the cover page; it still had the old date on it.

The professor was livid and wrote a huge red "F" on it. The guy was outraged and stormed out saying he would sue if he didn't get a passing grade.

And this was no kid; this guy was at least thirty-something years old. Too old to NOT know better.

Heheheh.

BREAKING: I ALSO HAVE A DOCUMENT AND IT IS ACCURATE TO MY SATISFACTION!!!

In a devastating memo, recently produced by me, CBS news anchor, Dan Rather:

ADMITS that he is actually, none other than Boston Globe columnist and long time White House sock puppet:

HELEN THOMAS. In angry, chicken-scratch-like writing, Helen declares via this memo that the "glass ceiling" prevented her, a "woman" from anchoring an evening news broadcast. Disguising herself as a man was her only option for broadcast success. THIS IS ACCURATE TO MY SATISFACTION!!!
