If you NEVER want to fly again, go to airliners.net.
These people have a sick fetish for absurdly low and off-center landings. Lots of other interesting pix.

NO NO NO!!! I am absolutely TERRIFIED to fly and I have to go to Chicago next month for my son's Navy Boot Camp graduation.
My father is going with me and he LOVES to fly. He is like a little boy because he gets to fly on a 777 - one of few he hasn't been on.
My 13-year old daughter is taking her very first plane flight and she is so excited she's been bouncing off the walls for a week.
The flight leaves at 6:30AM and I'm planning to be drugged heavily by that time. I will likely spend the entire flight under my seat curled up in fetal position!

Yes. You can really FEEL how different the 777 is. It was one of the first planes to really push manufacturing tolerances to the next level, and everthing was CAD designed AND integrated before a prototype was built.
It is like the difference between a Honda S2000 and a Triumph TR6.

You will be happy to know that the 777 is the safest thing flying. Well designed and well built. They even have nifty little "fart inhalers" that are strategically placed to remove one of the more common side effects of air travel...

For those non-Chicagoans reading this thread, Niles is the first suburb encountered going north out of the city along the Milwaukee avenue route. It is located basically East-Northeast of O'Hare. Niles is typically under the landing pattern of planes coming in from the Northeast. Usually the takeoffs are to the other direction (into the prevailing westerly), then plane probably made a 1/2 circle and came right back in. That would be my best guess from someone who has observed the airport activity around here for 20+ years.

Damn Canadian geese. They are everywhere around here, and they're nuisance birds now. IF a bird caused this, it would not be a surprise to me.

GMTA with the geese thing. I'm sick of them. They're stupid birds. You can drive right up to a flock of them slowly strolling across the street and they won't budge, even when you blast your horn at them. My kids giggle when I say that the food shortage problem would go away if we would treat these excess geese like a potential food source for food banks around here :-).

You should fly into Palm Springs around July or August....the thermals as you come in will make you feel like you're on a jeep ride.

Landing is worse in hot weather! There are actually 2 In-n-Outs in the valley...one in Thousand Palms, just to the north of the freeway (maybe the Bob Hope Drive exit?) and the other is in Indio right on Highway 111 at the "sea level" sign just past Monroe.
Enjoy the visit - which city are the folks in?

Funny, I have a Commercial Pilot cert/Instrument rating... and LOVE to fly...got my private at 17. Consider myself an expert "airman".
But I do NOT enjoy flying on commercial airliners. I rarely drink except when I fly them. I order the BottomlessBloodyMary!!

(Ignorance of the truth is no excuse for stupidity.)
i worked for american before coming to lockheed, and my wife is a flight attendant for american, on an md-80 right now, taking off in 30 minutes to providence.
md-80s are the work-horse for american, very good plane.
american has the best maintenance program of all the airlines. i'm sure they'll take a good look and inspect the rest of the fleet immediately if they find anything fishy

Mmm. Can't even imagine how great it would be to live close enough to one of those In-n-Out's! I get to go only a couple of times a year.
