POLITICAL ACTION

Mission Statement
The fight for fair and equal representation in the workplace is the core of the labor movement. As a leading political organization, The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades ensures that local, state, and federal decision makers in the United States and Canada understand and undertake our cause.

In 2001, the AFL-CIO named the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades the most effective political organization in the labor movement. IUPAT members quickly became known as the 'Army of Black and Gold' as we attended political events throughout North America in our signature black and gold t-shirts. IUPAT members proved themselves a force to be reckoned in the field of grassroots organizing and voter mobilization. Members went door to door with campaign literature and worked the phones for pro-worker candidates. In many places, members ran for, and won, elected offices.

I just sent an e-mail to their union president:
askthegeneralpresident@iupat.org

My message:
"I'll bet your real proud of this member: just tell your frickin' members we're not all 3-year-old girls..."
