Kerry Questioned About His 'Chinese Assault Rifle'
CNSNews ^ | September 17, 2004 | Susan Jones, CNSNews.com Morning Editor

CNSNews.com) - Does Sen. John F. Kerry really own a "Communist Chinese assault rifle," as he suggested in an interview in the latest edition of Outdoor Life magazine?

The Second Amendment Foundation says if the senator does own such a rifle, it wants to know where Kerry keeps it, if it is legally registered, and how he got it into the United States.

"Senator Kerry's own words once again trip him up in an apparent hypocrisy," SAF Founder Alan Gottlieb said in a press release.

"Responding to a question from Outdoor Life about whether he is a gun owner, and if so, what's his favorite gun, Kerry strongly intimates he has an assault rifle, which is illegal to own both in Massachusetts and Washington, D.C."

The Kerry quote appears on Page 82 of the October issue of Outdoor Life. He told the magazine, "My favorite gun is the M-16 that saved my life and that of my crew in Vietnam. I don't own one of those now, but one of my reminders of my service is a Communist Chinese assault rifle."

Gottlieb called it another example of Kerry running on his Vietnam service history: "Now he's talking as if he's got an assault rifle stashed somewhere, while he's been railing against their ownership by other law-abiding American citizens," Gottlieb added.

Kerry supported an extension of the so-called assault weapons ban, which expired on Monday. Last week, at a campaign stop in St. Louis, he said, "As a hunter, I have never ever thought about going hunting with an AK-47 or an Uzi or anything else."

"Senator Kerry, where's the rifle?" Gottlieb asked. "In which one of your mansions are you hiding that gun? Why should it be okay for you to have a Communist Chinese assault rifle when you think nobody else should have one? And if you don't have one, why would you intimate to Outdoor Life that you do?"

Kerry has made it a point to appeal to gun owners by staging a number of gun-friendly photo-ops on the campaign trail.

Kerry reminds me of he comic liar on Saturday Night live, John Lovitz. Kerry's lies are often pathetic and childish and easily discerned.

Spending Christmas of 68 in Cambodia when Nixon was saying that there were no US troops in Cambodia is a memory that was seared into my memory. Oh, Nixon wasn't president until January? It was some holiday in January that was seared forever into my memory. What? There's no record of that mission? Well it was a SEEECRET mission. The CIA sent me. Yeah! That's the ticket! I used to go on lots of secret missions for the CIA back then.

Now x42 was a very capable liar. Some of what he and Hillary said was so clever that I feel they must have had supernatural help.

In many states you have to hunt whitetail deer with shotgun and rifled slug. Not enough open range to unleash a rifle. The slugs add a degree of difficulty. It's about like throwing a rock at the deer.

You don't know what you are talking about.
Many a deer has been taken by shotgun.

Sen Kerry, is it fully automatic?

If it is a “Communist Chinese assault rifle” it is fully automatic.

Kerry has said in the past that he still has the launcher taken from his kill behind the hooch.

And if he does, I certainly hope it classifies as a DEWAT. Otherwise, something like that would be naughty.

"My favorite gun is the M-16 that saved my life and that of my crew in Vietnam."

From his Senate testimony, I thought he was ordred to use a 50 cal machine gun, which was the only weapon issued to him to use against people. Now we learn that he was relying on his trusty M-16.

I don't "think" the launcher would be illegal but the load would be if he still had it.

The semi-auto SKSs were simply called "Chicom rifles" by some people before "SKS" became the commonly used term for them.

It's not his. It's the family's assault weapon.

(If there is one, it was probably Heinz's...)

John's used to someone else picking up all his dirty underware. He doesn't even know the mess he's making.

I sure hope he has developed a taste for 100+ small pellets along with that tasty venison.

Upon impact the maximum expansion of the soft lead slug (essentially a .62 caliber bullet) produces devastatingly lethal results. The Lightfield Hybred EXP is "The Standard by Which Other Slugs are Judged."

When I returned from one of my Vietnam tours I had some
paper work done that allowed me to handcarry a CHICOM rifle
back to the States. I subsequently gave it to a friend years
ago but I legally brought it back to the states.

Others should have said by now, but bringing home a "weapon" is illegal.

But, then again, this is the guy who testified - in front of Congress - (Where's Ollie North ???) that US soldiers had brought home ears as trophies!

And, (lawyer types would need to apply this to each state I guess) isn't it illegal to even HAVE a functional machine gun in your house? ("assault weapon" is just a fast rifle with a long clip, while an AK-47 IS a machine gun, right?)

machine guns are legal to own in VA, if i am not mistaken. if he doesn't have it on the premises in DC and has it in one of the multiple manses owned by wifey elsewhere, he is probably ok. i have no idea about bringing stuff home from the service.

I believe the first Gulf War was the first time our military members were not allowed to bring home firearms that would be legal in the U.S. as souvenirs.

Probably an SKS, semi-auto and perfectly legal. They were much more common than the Chi-com AK at the time (though Charlie had lots of Soviet-bloc AKs).
