repost from other threads:

for the historical records:
"buckhead" got plenty of coverage on the Friday, 9-17-04 edition of the John Ziegler (sp?)
Show on KFI radio in Los Angeles
(www.kfi640.com)...
if buckhead read this, welcome to the big time, Ziegler is doing great ratings in
his time slot!

Instead, Dan keeps demanding Bush respond to the ''serious questions'' raised by his fake memos. ''With respect, Mr. President,'' he droned the other day, ''answer the questions.'' The president would love to, but he's doubled up with laughter.

I have in my possession, a number of documents that prove Dan Rather molests goats. "With respect, Mr. Rather, answer the questions!"

Whatever other lessons are drawn from this, we ought at least to acknowledge that the privileged position accorded to ''official'' media and the restrictions placed on the citizenry by McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform are wholly unwarranted.

Here, here!

So the question now is why won't Dan and Co. just admit their docs are crocks and let it go? On Wednesday, CBS News head honcho Andrew Heyward, in a slippery statement, announced that ''we established to our satisfaction that the memos were accurate.'' Note that word: not ''genuine'' but ''accurate'' -- i.e., if Lt. Col. Killian had had one of those IBM Model Ds and been willing to remove the carriage return and replace it with a rubber stopper on the front index scale while turning the crank, etc., these are the memos he would have written. Rather and Heyward are adopting the rogue-cop defense: The evidence is planted, but the guy's still guilty. Or as the New York Times' headline put it: ''Memos On Bush Are Fake But Accurate.''

Why has CBS News decided it would rather debauch its brand and treat its audience like morons than simply admit their hoax? For Dan Rather? I doubt it. Hurricane Dan looks like he's been hit by one. He's still standing, just about, but, like a battered double-wide, more and more panels are falling off every day. No one would destroy three-quarters of a century of audience trust and goodwill for one shattered anachronism of an anchorman, would they?

As the network put it last week, ''In accordance with longstanding journalistic ethics, CBS News is not prepared to reveal its confidential sources or the method by which '60 Minutes' Wednesday received the documents.'' But, once they admit the documents are fake, they can no longer claim ''journalistic ethics'' as an excuse to protect their source. There's no legal or First Amendment protection afforded to a man who peddles a fraud. You'd think CBS would be mad as hell to find whoever it was who stitched them up and made them look idiots.

So why aren't they? The only reasonable conclusion is that the source -- or trail of sources -- is even more incriminating than the fake documents. Why else would Heyward and Rather allow the CBS news division to commit slow, public suicide?

Dan's been play-acting at being a reporter for so many years now -- the suspenders, the loosened tie, and all the other stuff that would look great if he were auditioning for a cheesy dinner-theater revival of ''The Front Page''; the over-the-top intros: ''Bob Schieffer, one of the best hard-nosed reporters in the business, has been working his sources. What have you managed to uncover for us, Bob?'', after which Bob reads out a DNC press release.

Steyn's imagery nails down what has bothered me about Dan Rather for years...he is so full of himself...he is a ham actor to his core...and he pontificates to us lower mortals (much like John Kerry by the way).

I just read Mark Steyn's article to my wife, mentioning the FR.

My wife wants to freep now. She's jealous that her girl Greta is days behind in the news (really made her green when someone freeped an entire summary of the Peterson and Hacking murders. I printed them so she could follow Greta better. She wasn't amused).

I tell her she has her Shep, Neil, and Greta but I've got Kattracks, the zot brigade, NavySeal F-16, Sacred Cow Pies, and the pajama posse! She's experiencing series hugh freeper envy!

She'll probably lurk because she can't give up FOX.

One good thing about Susan is that she did not condone Clinton, while all the rest of the liberal feminists did.

But I can't mention Miss Estrich without thinking of this fish.

"lower mortals" - which is ironic because Captain Dan with his faked downhome, cracker barrel sayings made himself look even more of a doofus than he is.

I am beginning to suspect that Rather is stonewalling in an attempt to lay the grounds for his legal defense in the upcoming trial: not guilty by reason of insanity.

Mark Steyn bump, one of his best.

LOL... It doesn't get any better than this:

Dan's been play-acting at being a reporter for so many years now -- the suspenders, the loosened tie, and all the other stuff that would look great if he were auditioning for a cheesy dinner-theater revival of ''The Front Page''; the over-the-top intros: ''Bob Schieffer, one of the best hard-nosed reporters in the business, has been working his sources. Steyn has outdone himself!

So direct so scathing! Mark puts in words what we all KNOW Intuitively.

What have you managed to uncover for us, Bob?'', after which Bob reads out a DNC press release. Dan's been doing all this so long he doesn't seem to realize the news isn't just a show.

Ive contacted the senate and asked that they investigate David Van Os's involvement.

Van Os is Burketts attorny and is gunning for the TX Supreme Court

I've thought it if I hadn't posted it; I recall discussing it (offline) with a friend.

I don't know if the question's been posed exactly the way you put it, but I do remember reading comments offered by his widow that he hated typing, wouldn't have typed such a memo, and he didn't have time to put things like that on paper; he kept details in his head.

"Why has CBS News decided it would rather debauch its brand and treat its audience like morons than simply admit their hoax?"

Well, their audience may actually BE morons. If everybody but the lefties have stopped listening to Dan Blather, then an example of the intellectual level of his listeners could be somewhat like this: "So tell me, how does a lawyer become an expert on typewriters and fonts and shit?" -(lapfog_1, at the DUmmy site). Or this: "She's put them between a rock and a hard place. If you think she's right about the documents being bogus, then how can you NOT believe her when she says that Bush missed drills, disobeyed an order, and upset her boss?." -(rocknation, at the same site.

The left really isn't very smart. The unfortunate thing is they seem to breed.
