This is the upteenth celebrity to have died this year alone. Already we have lost Ray Charles, Rick James, Syreeta, Laura Branigan and Tom Jones. When will this madness stop?

Loved the song "End of the World". Saw Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits perform that song in Cleveland last year and he brought down the house. Skeeter Davis will be missed.

This truly is sad. I loved Skeeter Davis. I learned to play the guitar when I was eleven years old and my sister and I sang a lot of her songs. I have looked without success to try to find some of them. Especially Sunglasses.

Sorry, Tom Jones was a mistake. I must have been thinking of Tony Randall and I got the two confused.

A number of years ago, I had the opportunity to see her perform at the Grand Ole Opry. She had a great voice, and a very down to Earth, easy going manner with the audience. She impressed me as a genuinely nice person.

Skeeter was from a small town just south of Cincinnati. She came in occasionally to the shop I worked in after school and weekends while I in grade/middle school. This was in the early sixties at the heigth of her sucess with Why Does The World Keep On Turning. I think she was my first brush with a star.

We lost a big one last September with Johnny Cash. Oddly enough, one of his last recorded works was a duet with his daughter Rosanne Cash on her album Rules of Travel. They performed a rather spooky tune called September When it Comes. Johnny died the day the album was released...in September.

Getting back to Skeeter Davis though, i remember her in a Stateside PX signing autographs and speaking with the troops when i was in the Army...sorry i don't remember which post it was...She supported the troops, and for that she has my profound respect and my prayers to her family.
