Matt Drudge just announced that CBS will admit, maybe as soon as tomorrow, that they were 'deceived' and are launching an intensive, in-depth investigation.

This election is over. Rather has blown it. I think they're trying to cut off further investigation into the link between the Kerry campaign-Rather-the docs.

I think you are spot on. I don't think these documents came from Burkett directly. They came via the Kerry folks via Cleland. What they are going to do is blame Burkett and avoid talking about how the docs actually got to CBS. Burkett will refuse to talk on 5th amendment grounds. CBS will conduct a super-top-secret internal investigation that will extend past November 2.

Don't see how we break thru the stonewall in time for the election. Oh well. This episode has put a big hurt on the MSM's credibility in sliming W. The next three 'huge' revelations before the election will not have the impact they would have had if Danny had not blown it.

Now this could get real interestin! My bet is someone is going to take a real fall on these documents.

Just for yuks, how 'bout Unca Dan is in Texas to make a deal? Say for instance: he's going to make 'ol Burcky the fall guy but, Burk knows a little bit more than Blather wants to admit to his fans, (both of 'em).

This looks to me like damage control to get all there ducks in a line. Why would SeeBS have to send RatherNot to Texas? In the past they have always sent someone else. I'll tell you the truth this looks to me like we're going to see and end to this soon and Burkette is not going to have to worry about retirement. Hell, I'm sure once Dan is done with him he will be more than willing to take one for the 'ol DNC and be mighty proud of it too! He's going to be a hero! He's going to save Rather’s butt and keep SeeBS ratings from going all the way to hell.

What do you ‘spose that will be worth $$$$$?

Only problem is this guy’s one lap short of finishing the race and it could really come back like the aroma of a two day old diaper that got pushed under the couch.

We’re not done with the comedy relief yet folks!

Conspiracy? Mikey More would be proud of me!!!!!!!!

They were "deceived". No, they were the ones doing the deceiving.

That sounds the most plausible to me. Rather admits he was deceived and implicates the "Republican dirty tricks machine."

CBS was not deceived. They were a willing party to fraud.

Now that CBS has admitted that the documents were forgeries, they no longer have an obligation to protect the SOURCE of the forgeries!

ATTENTION CBS & DAN RATHER: NAME THE SOURCE OF THE FORGERIES!

If CBS wanted to negotiate with Burkett they wouldn't have sent Dan. They would have sent someone who had less stake in the outcome. Dan can probably be blackmailed by Burkett and would make a poor negotiator. However, he still fills the bill as a possible co-conspirator.

Don't you think it's possible that he'll have Burkett say that he was the source of the documents, but he didn't forge them and he doesn't know who does? Sounds like something Rather would run with.

And by WHO were you deceived, CBS? Pray tell...

That will be the interesting part. Deception has to have a player. Who deceived them? That is a VERY important part of the story, and one which must be addressed.

I just don't believe that Rather was totally duped. He's obviously not the smartest guy around, but those forgeries are very sloppy.

Fact is, it would have been fairly easy to produce forgeries that would have withstood Buckheads scrutiny.

Rather' judgment in thinking he could pass off those forgeries is obviously questionable, but is he really stupid enough to have been duped by them?

Or better yet, "the old, original, typewritten memos were destroyed under orders in 1997, and were later recreated on a PC."

Dan said on National TV the other night that if it turns out the story he has is wrong, he would like to be the one to break the story. Hahahahaaa, the idiot doesn't acknowledge that a Freeper already broke the story. D-Nile is not a river Dan.

Damn it all. You're probably right. Hell, I'll go so far as to say that your remarks border on prophetic.

Or better yet, "the old, original, typewritten memos were destroyed under orders in 1997, and were later recreated on a PC."

One flaw in that scenario. Whenever something is "re-created," the inevitable question is always: "By whom?"

That's where that lie would grow increasingly dicey.

I agree either Rather was blinded by partisanship or very stupid. To go when your own document examiers question then is dead wrong..and to continue to stand up for them indicates an imbecile or accomplice. The story was not vetted at all, and because of who te target was it should have been unimpeachable evidence...heck even OJ's jury would convict on those docs....
