Syria To Begin Withdrawing Troops From Lebanon Immediately-(joing patrols with USA...)

Syrian forces in Lebanon will start redeploying towards the Syrian border Tuesday, official sources in Damascus told UPI.

"This is official," said Imad Mustapha, Syria's ambassador to Washington, speaking from the Syrian capital.

"Tuesday morning there will be a major redeployment of Syrian forces in Lebanon," he said by phone, adding, "this came about as a result of having greater confidence in the situation."

"This move should please all parties," said Mustapha.

Asked how many troops were involved in the redeployment and to what positions the troops would move, Mustapha said, "It is too early to tell."

The Syrian official said the move is evidence Syria is trying to cooperate with the United States.

Earlier it was announced Syrian and U.S. forces would partake in joint patrols along the Iraqi-Syrian border to prevent insurgents infiltrating into Iraq. Mustapha confirmed the deal, saying it came about after a visit to Damascus by American officials.

Do you remember when Reagan sent Americans into Lebabon and the truck bombing. If so, keep your fingers crossed and be careful what you wish for.

If true, this is major news. The White House has been quietly/firmly letting Damascus know that their day of reckoning is coming. This was one of the moves they demanded of Syria to demonstrate they understood the perils of continuing to work with Iran to destabilize Iraq.
If Syria pulls a Libya, Iran will be isolated and easier to muscle into submission.

They must have seen The President's latest poll numbers and decided holding out for Kerry wasn't a tenable position!

Do you wonder (I cite this only as a a possibility) if certain individuals in the US intelligence cmnty approached those in Syria and said "You know what? We've located Saddam's WMD...and guess what? They're in the Bekaa Valley".

I wonder if us knowing of the WMD's provided us with some leverage to get Syria to get out of Lebanon?

I remember that. The big problem was that we allowed our peace-keepers to return fire only if they were fired upon first.

The guards at the Marines barracks weren't even allowed to load their weapons that morning when the towelhead drove the truck into the barracks compound. By the time they did load their weapons and fire defensively, it was too late.

I don't see that happening again.

I remember!! I lost friends there! My brother was off the coast on a ship. A very sad day.

I am of Lebanese descent (born American) and my cousin and I just asked a waitor at a Lebanese restaurant one week ago (he is from Beruit), "when the hell is Syria going to get out of Lebanon".

Anyway, good to hear. We would love to have Lebanon free again.

I doubt it. That would allow Syria to keep the WMD. If that was the case, we would probably cooperate with Israel and one of us would go remove those weapons.

I think Syria has been identified as helping the insurgents in Iraq. And I think Bush simply used Lebanon as a way of drawing a line in the sand that the international community would back him on. And it places Syria in check. Either Syria gets out of Lebanon or Bush has a reason to remove Syria.

Stratergy at it's finest.

"The Syrian official said the move is evidence Syria is trying to cooperate with the United States."

WOW!

Another victory for President Bush without firing a shot.
The Bush doctrine is working.

First Libya, now Syria is starting to see the light.

Next thing they will renounce WMD and hand us over Saddam's WMD, which were hidden there.

JUST DAMN. Only last week Russia, China, the Pakis, the Frogs, along with other usual suspects of obstruction, voted no or abstained, while raising hell with the US for even bringing it up in the august UN body requesting Syria get out of Lebanon. Blam, almost overnight, without a whimper, it is a done deal?

Now, Syria will begin participating in joint patrols in force with the US along their border with Iraq to prevent the ubiquitous "foreign" fighters from getting into Iraq? Nothing occures in a vacuum.

Methinks Syria got some Allah awful news from Bush. Detroy the WMD Sadamn sneaked out of Iraq, like right now. And, by the way, get your arses out of Lebanon, or we will not have to put troop one in country, just stand offshore for a few months with cruise missiles and destroy Syria's complete infrastructure.

Syria said, duh, well, uh, maybe things can be done to accommodate the US in this matter.

Three years into the war:

All this with one third the casualties that we suffered in a matter of minutes on 9/11.

The war is going well.

God bless our troops and our Commander in Chief, and may God continue to bless America.

Peace through war........ what a great concept

One can only imagine what we could accomplish if our nation had just a bit of a spine and we were not hampered by rampant PC and hand-wringing UN loving, American hating democrats.

I admire GW but I pray someday we have someone of his character in office that realizes that losing American lives while allowing a mosque to stand or a city to harbor terrorists beheading thugs, will NO LONGER be tolorated, and by example show them a demonstration.

If they capture an AMERICAN or an ALLY, we take out a city block in their holy cities. They kill or capture more than ONE American or ally by whatever method and we take out a HOLY MOSQUE. The explode a car bomb and kill dozens of Iraqi policemen and innocents we level Fallujah, Tikrit or any other known or suspected terrorist hideout.
