MSNBC had a guest on who has written a book on blogs. The host made some smarmy comment that at least old-style journalists "use our real names." Seemed like a cut at Buckhead and Freepers.

What arrogance. For many years TIME did not even given by-lines. That was to further the tone of omniscience the magazine affected. Fact is a lot of authors use non de plumes (whatever, you see I have no French). It allows more freedom of expression.

FReepers radical?
If being radical equals going against liberalism, loving one's country, and standing tall for conservatism, then give me a sign to hold up announcing it to all..

Given the track record of today, maybe they should consider ending the "real name" usage.

Yeah, and old time 'journalists' use forgeries too!
I'm fixating on the use of the word "old". hehe. Seems someone has finally picked up on the fact we are refering to them as the Old Media, and ourselves as the New Media. Seems that cut deep. LOL
So I'm a radical? Cool. Guess "right-winger" just doesn't have the same zest it used to.

Seemed like a cut at Buckhead and Freepers. That's lame. Buckhead and the doubters that followed him were right. Mary Mapes and Dan Rather, whose name is on the bottom of the screen all the time, were wrong, and now they have enough egg on their faces to make a week's worth of omelettes.
Besides, we wouldn't ever have known Bill Burkett's identity if the memos had been authentic. Sell that schtuff somewhere else.

Using their real names sure as hell didn't make them more adept at doing some actual investigative reporting when they got their hands on those forged memos. It took the pajama-clad online FReepers and bloggers with their pseudonyms to notice the glaringly obvious fraud staring everybody right in the face.
