White House political adviser Karl Rove yesterday scoffed at Democratic charges that he was somehow behind the release of faked documents to CBS that attacked President Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard.
And he returned fire, saying there are plenty of outstanding questions that Democrats must answer about their involvement with CBS anchorman Dan Rather's now-discredited story, which heavily relied on the bogus memos.
Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe has insinuated twice since CBS' "60 Minutes" aired the charges on Sept. 8 that Mr. Rove or other Republicans might have been involved in some way.
Mr. McAuliffe has offered no proof.
Mr. Rove mocked the suggestion when asked about it at a luncheon with editors and reporters of The Washington Times.
"Obviously, you know the answer is no. Do you feel good about asking that question?" he said before repeating, "The answer is no, obviously."
He also called Mr. McAuliffe "a wild-man ranter and raver."
Mr. Rove also said it's not for him to demand an apology from Mr. Rather to the president. But he said it was noteworthy that Mr. Rather has yet to admit that the documents were forged, instead saying only that their authenticity cannot be proved.
"He's probably the only person in America that still thinks there's a possibility these are true and accurate documents," Mr. Rove said.

And Scoff he should! The Dems are spinning in the wind.
LOL go get um Carl ! :^D
Karl even :^D
LOL! Somebody got OWN3D!
I wish they were all "spinning in the wind" at the end of a rope!
The other big conspiracy (besides Rove being the originator of the documents) is that Roger Stone is behind the documents. From where this idea got started, I dunno, but there are some certifiable whackos over there.
So I have to disagree with Rove -- there are still plenty of people who cling to those memos.
Good of him to point out CBS' reluctance to call the memos forgeries, though.
Karl's a pro, Terri ain't. Terri knows it, and it bothers the hell out of her.
LOL
Karl Rove is really 'Buck Throat' and Hillary is really 'Lucy Ramirez'.
;-)
And the "Lucy" who handed the docs to Bill Burkett? Well, Bill initially thought she said, "Lucy Ramirez," but what she actually said was "Lucy Roverez." And we all know that Burkett originally told the USA Today about Ramirez/Roverez, but then later said it was a man. So that proves that Ramirez/Roverez was in drag.
But, hey, keep all this quiet. We don't want DU gettin' ahold of this: They wouldn't know which side of this to emphasize first--(1) that this is all a massive right-wing conspiracy; or (2) yet another closet Republican in drag to drag out before the press.
Now, I ask you.... How could ANYONE take the Democrat party seriously with Terry as the party chairman?
His greatest claim to fame is he got rich on an insider's scam... Semper Fi
The only one of those three items that is true is the second one. The other ones were falsehoods pushed by the the VLWC.
"A major question for Mr. Thornburgh and Mr. Boccardi is why CBS went ahead with the broadcast after two of its hired experts expressed doubts about the memos' authenticity. "
We know the answer, we would just like Dan to report it.
Either that or the DU'ers are CBS employees.
I was over there yesterday and the front page has an accusation that Roger Stone leaked the docs.
Half thinks they are still real, teh other half thinks it was a GOP plot.
They are truly delusional.
The only thing worse for the democratic party than having McAuliffe as the chairman, is having Kerry as the candidate.
Where DO they find these people?
