I think this is why Bush (and the Rs) will have a big problem if he is re-elected in the fall. You've got troops in Iraq that appear to be there for the long-haul--I'm guessing that Iraq will be an issue in the 2008 election, too.

The government is going to have to come up with both the soldiers and the scratch to pay for long-term operations in Iraq, and I'm not sure where it is going to come from--it's either going to have to cut domestic spending by drastic proportions (something with which I have no problem, but given the attitudes of Congress and voters, something not likely to happen) or raise taxes. Bush and the Rs are really between a rock and a hard place here, and I'm not sure how they are going to get out of it.

Taxes are high because people want the gov't to do and provide more and more. I don't blame politicians anymore, I blame the voters.

I disagree. The Republicans came to power with a smaller government, less spending platform. Their success has led to them being progressively corrupted by power. I guess it's more lucrative to buy votes, than to promote winning ideas.

But all their money comes from the consumers of their products. Corporations do not create money. They create goods and services that they trade for money, some of which they then give to the government in the form of taxes and bribes. None of that money originated with the corporation, but with the consumer.

Corporations do not pay taxes.

Name one corporation that pays taxes without considering it in the cost of their goods.

You already pay the taxes for the corporations that produce what you consume.

If the prices of the goods did not decrease, then it would present a great opportunity for new companies to enter that market. How about it, you up for starting a business and offering a product cheaper than everyone else?

You mean moving the tax burden entirely from corporations to Joe Sixpack ?

Corporations can't pay taxes, only people can. When you tax a corporation you're really taxing its shareholders, employees, and customers.

You forgot the 3rd option of shifting defense spending by reallocating troops currently in EU to the ME.

Duh! Attention America -- particularly those dumbass politicians and citizens who play the "Punish Success Game:"

Why not make America the world's best tax haven? All you have to do is replace the income tax with a National Retail Sales Tax and abolish the IRS!

“I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.” [Thomas Jefferson, letter to Benjamin Rush, 1800.]

Click here and here to help us scrap the Code, scrap the IRS and abolish the VLWC!

You can also click here to sign a petition in support of Fundamental Tax Replacement.

We will never be a truly FRee people so long as we have the income tax and the IRS.

Corporations do not pay taxes.

That is absolutely right but corporations that do not have to pass taxes to their consumers because they are headquartered in tax haven nation are more competitive. So we might as well make the USA the best tax haven in the world.

Taxes are high because people want the gov't to do and provide more and more.....

.....as long as they don't think they're paying for it.

some of it could also be hidden in reducing wages or reducing investment returns... but those are options of last resort (ie before bankruptcy)....
i'd say 95% are in prices...but that's an educated guess

regardless, individuals ALWAYS end up paying taxes, whether in higher prices, lower wages, or less than expected return on investment.

why do you think prices of comparable goods are about the same? ie why do all red-tag levis cost around $40?

the answer to that will tell you why industry-wide cost reductions will result in price reductions...

"--it's either going to have to cut domestic spending by drastic proportions ....... or raise taxes."

There is a 3rd option that deserves consideration. We can jettison the horrible tax system that is such an enormous drag on our economy and free the economy to perform at its potential. That would go a long way toward increasing federal revenues, as virtually all studies have shown that economic growth is a major factor in determining whether the federal government operates at a surplus or a deficit.

Yep, prices would come down. The applicable force that would cause prices to come down is called: C O M P E T I T I O N !

P.S.1 A note to those who bad-mouth the FairTax by falsely claiming that low- and middle-income people would pay more under the FairTax than they pay today under the Income tax System. You are mistaken. Read this... FairTax vs: Income Tax!

P.S.2. Here's the 2004 Family Allowance Chart!

P.S.3. Here's a Paycheck! after the FairTax is enacted.

P.S.4 Here's where you can sign the FairTax Petition!

P.S.5 Review the FairTax at INFO! and FAQs! and AFFT!

Bye, bye... Income Tax (and IRS)! We won't miss ya' at all!
