I'd sure like to ask Dubya what's behind this. I mean, compassionate conservatism is fine. But, illegal is illegal. Either facilitate enforcement of the law, or change it.

President Bush needs to get his head out of his rump on this issue. Mexico, and the illegals it sends here, are doing nothing but exploiting us. Another hospital is shutting down it's emergency care in L.A., we house their criminals, etc. yet this is how they treat our people.

This needs some more confirmation... before we conservatives leave the section for President 'blank' on election day.

But this looks very bad for Bush. Perhaps this leak is a sneaky trick by the Soros, Kerry crowd.

This means that Bush needs to support these "controversial" provisions that will keep America safe from illegal alien terrorists. If he doesn't support them, then this leak is true.

Can't be any simpler than this: Bush supports these anti-alien terrorist provisisions that he claimed he did earlier, or he doesn't. If he doesn't, he shouldn't get the conservative vote.

Straight ticket Republican voters should just leave the President slot blank if Bush doesn't push anti-illegal-alien legislation through.

This is NOT a sneaky trick by the Kerry crowd. NumbersUSA is a very real, very active organization with an office on the hill. I got this info in an email from them yesterday.

President Bush would only veto any measure to enforce immigration code.

I've had enough of President Bush on the illegal immigration and Mexico issue.

Our nation is only as secure as are her borders. Bush has complicated every enforcement effort and refuses to help in any manner.

I would think the White House could strike a deal with House leaders to agree to consider these provisions as part of another piece of legislation after the election so that the Senate version could move forward and be signed into law.

Imagine Denny Hastert and company could be agreeable to this...unless this White House has made similar promises on this issue in the past that it's not kept.

What's so hard to believe? It's not like this is coming out of left field. Bush has been talking about this since he was elected. Remember he was pushing it very hard the week prior to 911. I just can't believe he thinks this will buy him more votes than he'll lose on this issue. It makes no sense.

"Sometimes I wonder if Bush REALLY wants to win this election ..."

I wondered the same thing during the debate. Bush had this "I don't need this crap" look on his face. I admire the man for standing by his principals but this is one I wish he'd flip-flop on.

This has Karl Rove's fat little $%&^#ing fingers all over it!

IMO, he is a frigging MORON!
He almost caused Dubya to lose in 2000 (by hiding Dybya for the last two weeks) and bears sole responsibility for the ensuing debacle - and he's doing his damnedest to REPEAT IT!

Grrrrr......

copy of the email I received yesterday from NumbersUSA:

Dear supporters of a secure America,

Even as I write this weekend, White House lobbyists are pressuring GOP leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives. The White House wants to strip from the pending 9/11 legislation most provisions that would make America safer by combatting the illegal immigration invasion.

Click here to send urgently needed faxes to try to influence this situation for the better.

This fax message will go to President Bush and three top officials in the Department of Homeland Security.

We must cause the Administration to see such an avalanche of protest over this weekend that it will pull back its efforts the first of the week.

Adminstration officials will be shocked to hear from you and tens of thousands of others because their secret attempts have not been reported in the media, and because they think they can sneak around to weaken our borders without the public ever finding out.

We are able to convey this kind of inside information quickly because NumbersUSA maintains the only immigration-reduction facility on Capitol Hill and has a team of professionals working on the Hill at least 18 hours nearly every day (and 24 hours a day when Congress is in a frenzy of activity).

The Inside Story At This Moment

The White House efforts began yesterday and continue full force through this weekend. The bottom line is that the White House apparently does not want provisions that would make it significantly more difficult for illegal workers to enter and remain in the U.S.

We can only speculate why the White House would do this. But our best guess is that corporate campaign contributors have pressured the White House to not do anything that would reduce their supply of cheap illegal foreign workers.

The White House apparently prefers the 9/11 legislation that is moving through the Senate. That bill contains no efforts to improve our immigration system. It was written by Sen. Lieberman (D-CT) and Sen. Collins (R-ME).

Although the 9/11 tragedy was perpetrated by aliens who exploited an insecure immigration system, Lieberman and Collins (and apparently Pres. Bush) believe legislation responding to the tragedy should NOT do anything about our insecure immigration system.

Fortunately, House GOP leaders Hastert (IL), DeLay (TX) and Blunt (MO) agree with the American people that allowing millions of illegal aliens a free ride and leaving our borders largely open to new illegal entries is an affront to the memory of the victims of 9/11 and a danger to all Americans in the future.

They shepherded strong 9/11 legislation through House committees this week and intend to bring it to the floor next week -- if the White House doesn't change their minds.

What You Can Make Happen

Potentially, your faxes to Administration officials may frighten them to back off out of fear that their secret efforts will get high publicity and hurt Pres. Bush's re-election chances.

In addition, those of you who are constituents of Republican Members of the House will see a fax to send to them that may influence the outcome.

As early as Monday night, the GOP House leaders will meet with all House Republicans and give them a chance to indicate their preference between fighting illegal immigration and the White House's current preference to coddle illegal aliens.

If each of those House Republicans will have heard from scores of constituents asking them to retain the immigration provisions, we can hope that GOP House leaders will get a resounding message to stand firm in their initial inclination to fight illegal immigration.

(Retaining those provisions for the House vote will be just one major step. Next, the House leaders operating in the joint Conference Committee with Senate leaders will have to prevail. But we'll deal with that challenge when we get there.)

What's At Stake

The current 9/11 bill in the House has many great improvements on immigration. But the most important provisions at stake from the White House onslaught deal with making identification secure in this country, particularly in keeping drivers licenses out of the hands of illegal aliens.

The House provisions would stop here and now the ridiculous efforts in some states to give illegal aliens drivers licenses to help them break the law more easily.

Please Act Now

A vote on the 9/11 legislation is expected this next week. If the provisions against illegal immigration are not included in the bill that passes, it could be years before there is another chance.

But a simple action by you and our tens of thousands of other Action Network members could cause House GOP leaders to stand firm against the Republican Administration.

Thanks for stepping forward at such a crucial time.

NumbersUSA has worked closely with families of 9/11 victims this week and have helped them to express their preference for immigration provisions to high-level leaders.

Please don't let these 9/11 families down by failing to act now.

I'll probably come back to you by Monday with new updates and another action that you can take.

-- ROY

MEMO TO ALL OF YOU ANTI-BUSH TYPES:

Knock off your not going to vote for Bush because -- you were never going to vote for him in the first place. I have gone around with some of you in 2000 so your feigned disgust with Bush and Rove is ludicrous. Be honest about it at least. I respect people who are honest in who they are voting for -- I do not respect some of you on here that were never going to vote for Bush saying conservatives are going to stay home like you supported him before.

Wanting Kerry as President will insure an Executive Order giving you all what you don't want -- open borders and you can take that to the bank. The Dems have been against the embargo of Cuba, enforcement of the borders, etc. With Pres Bush things changed on 9-11 and the borders are being tightened.

It is you fear mongers that take an article based on some heresay and run with it why you are not voting for Bush when you never were and you all know who you are. And you can trash me all you want for the rest of this thread and I am not replying -- have no desire but new people on this forum need to know the truth about some of you on this thread before they believe what they are reading.

My gift to the newbies today is to expose the people on here that say they were for Bush before they are now against him but never have been for him and love to blame Rove for everything. If that sounds convuluted -- it is. Kind of like the Kerry strategy I was against, I was then for something, and now I am against. That's Democrat strategy and I would have thought Freepers would have been better than that.

The problem with not supporting (voting) for Pres. Bush is the risk of getting Kerry and his ilk in the exec. branch. I don't want Kerry picking Supreme Court justices or lower court justices for that matter.

Once Bush is re-elected, there is nothing you can do to pressure him, he is in and a lame duck with nothing to lose. The only political damage is for the party's nominee in '08.

This is the reason we (in Southern California) must throw out David Dreir(R) and Joe Baca(D) two of the most PRO-illegal immigration candidates out there.

Taking down the 3rd most powerful Republican in the House (Dreier) and a leftist Democrat (Baca) will not affect the balance of power but will send a message to the Republicans. Also getting rid of a Democrat is usually good no matter how you spin it.

"I just can't believe he thinks this will buy him more votes than he'll lose on this issue. It makes no sense."

No less sense than his stance on Kennedy's education bill, Daschle's farm bill, tax rebates for non-taxpayers, prescription drug program, lack of real opposition to Affirmative Action, etc., ad nauseum.

I just told my wife, a staunch Security Mom, that this may be the last straw for me. The bottom line, if this story is true, is that Bush can't be trusted with our security either.

And I'm sick of Carl Rove arrogently assuming they have us consevatives in their back pocket, regardless of what harm this administration does, because the Dem candidate is such an excretable alternative. That's been the GOP strategy for most of my life.

Enough is enough.

If true, this is totally NUTS to raise this issue at this time.

The MSM will make sure that Bush gets no credit from illegal aliens and Hispanics. The illegals will still vote Democrat by a huge margin.

But there are substantial numbers of Bush's conservative base who might stay home if they start hearing this again. Bush has only just begun to live down that amnesty story.

Bush desperately needs that 3 or 4% conservative vote that will be affected by stories like this. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Not to say bad for our country and our security.
