What They're Saying: Vice Presidential Debate, Volume One
George W. Bush ^ | October 5, 2004

Posted on 10/05/2004 8:55:03 PM PDT by RWR8189

ABC News' Poll Shows 43 Percent Think Vice President Cheney Won Debate, Only 35 Percent Think Edwards Won. (ABC's "Special Coverage," 10/5/04 )

NBC's Tom Brokaw:  "Dick Cheney Reminded Me Of George Foreman, Kind Of A Slow Gait, But A Powerful Right-Hand When He Unleashed It In A Number Of Areas As He Went After The Kerry-Edwards Ticket."  (NBC's "Special Coverage," 10/5/04 )

MSNBC's Ron Reagan:  "This Time, I Think The Chattering Classes, And I Include All Of Us Among Them, Will Come Out On The Side Of There Was A Stature Gap There, And It Was To Cheney's Advantage."  (MSNBC's "Hardball," 10/5/04 )

MSNBC's Chris Matthews Calls The Debate Between Vice President Cheney The "Howitzer" And Senator John Edwards The "Water Pistol."  (MSNBC's "Hardball," 10/05/04 )

MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell: "I Think Dick Cheney Did Awfully Well, At, First Of All, Putting John Edwards In His Place. Saying That I Have Been Presiding Over The Senate, And I Didn't Meet You Until Tonight. Talking About His Not Having Been On The Job Was Pretty Devastating."  (MSNBC's "Hardball," 10/5/04 )

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough:  "I Tell You, Tonight, No Doubt About It, Edwards Got Obliterated By Dick Cheney. This Is The Most Surprising Part. This Debate Actually Turned In Cheney's Direction When They Started Talking About Domestic Issues. I Thought Cheney Handled The Foreign Policy Issues Very Well."  (MSNBC's "Hardball," 10/5/04 )

You ARE series?????

Edwards was totally outclassed, when he couldn't use his pat/memorized answers, he went personal on Cheney!

No one who misses so much time in the senate can debate Cheney on an even level. Cheney knows all the facts, Breck Boy tried to memorize what he was told & messed up badly, blinked a lot & drank all his water (many signs of being very nervous & on the run!)

I thought he(the poster) was just "fatigued" -

Edwards kept talking the "talking points" and talking about other issues when asked a question - that was not smart, in my opinion -

just my thoughts -

I actually started laughing out loud when he started in on his daddy story.

As well, you should. What Edwards doesn't say about his father is that he became a mill owner. Somehow that part of his bio gets lost in his melodrama.

CBS has Edwards 60% Cheney 38% and they won't let you vote, I guess the Kerry crowd got their before the end of the debate, or thats just their opinion.

"One observer noted that during most of the debate, John Edwards looked like he had been slapped."

Looked like he had been slapped, and was trying to laugh about it so maybe he wouldn't get slapped again.

He also had SO many inaccuracies that were totally obvious. His facts were so completely screwed up.

Like Rush said today...ANYTHING with CBS on it is thrown out right away. Quite clearly, CBS is on a warpath and can't be trusted!~!

"And Senator, frankly, you have a record in the Senate that's not very distinguished. You've missed 33 out of 36 meetings in the Judiciary Committee, almost 70 percent of the meetings of the Intelligence Committee. You've missed a lot of key votes: on tax policy, on energy, on Medicare reform. Your hometown newspaper has taken to calling you 'Senator Gone.' You've got one of the worst attendance records in the United States Senate. Now, in my capacity as vice president, I am the president of Senate, the presiding officer. I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session. The first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight."

...yeah... back in the OLD DAYS, when miscreants actually had to fear the principal instead of blithely ignoring him.

GOOD.

I did say in my posting that Cheney performed well in the debate.

As for 2000, Cheney was the clear winner.

"John Edwards was slick and likeable"

Really, I would not have this bumbling idiot as my attorney.
no really!

Slick and like-able, let me guess, you are from New York?
He didn't answer the questions.
He was exposed for not showing up for votes and meetings.
The flip flopping argument towards Bush was very weak with no substance.
His mistakes on the rules.
Answering the previous question with a no answer again.
Getting his facts wrong time and time again.
Haliburton comments were exposing his preplanned desperate ploy tactic that was factually wrong! It wasn't a no bid, it was the only company with the capability at the time needed!
His stumbling though his words.
Cheney had the best and only lines that stuck.

Should I keep going?
Global test question? No answer.

Ron Reagan's comment really surprised me

I wish I could declare victory for the good guys, but I watched the debate, and it was a tie.

It was NOT a tie. Cheney won big time. Edwards looked pathetic and his responses were weak compared to Cheney.

John Edwards was slick and likeable.

No, Edwards was stumbling, bumbling and inexperienced. He also was not likable at all in his off the mark attacks on Cheney.

He also controlled the agenda more than Cheney did and scored the 'Rat talking points.

Wrong. Cheney kicked his stupid talking points out of the park.
