This is great news. I have been hoping and praying for Howard to win. Australia has been our staunchest ally over the years and we are proud and grateful for their support.

Gough Whitlam had real gravitas as Labor Leader. Mark Latham just has real gravity, generally around his girth.

Nervous??..I woke up at 4:30am with a nightmare..Kerry was in my home giving his talking points!.(I went to sleep with the TV on doing the reruns of the debate..)..I had a brief visit and hug from W and I was rebutting Kerry's points!..Kerry returned and I woke up most disturbed..most vivid nightmare in at least ten years!

This election is getting to me more than I had thought!

the usual suspects are already talking about packing up and leaving Australia(doesn't THAT ring a bell, hello, Alec Baldwin and ilk)

LOL. They've got those types over there too? As with Baldwin and Co. four years ago, I'll help 'em pack if they move to Cuba or China where they belong.

Good grief, I'm about ready to buy the ABC some decent earpieces.

"Sorry I couldn't hear that

Shouldn't Latham be saying that?

The ABC's earpieces are solar powered and were sponsored by the Greens.

Last Update: Saturday, October 9, 2004. 9:08pm (AEST)

Howard returned for historic fourth term

John Howard has won a fourth term as Prime Minister and he will return to government with an increased majority in the Parliament.

Two thirds of the vote has now been counted.

The Coalition's primary vote is up to nearly 47 per cent, which is nine points ahead of the ALP.

The Greens are polling more than 7 per cent, giving them close to the one million votes they predicted they would receive.

After preferences, the Coalition is ahead by 5 per cent.

Labor appears to have lost four seats, including the two northern Tasmanian seats, the Sydney seat of Greenway and the South Australian seat of Wakefield.

Two other South Australian seats remain in doubt, along with the Victorian seat of Holt and the northern New South Wales seat of Richmond.

In Queensland, there has been a swing to the Coalition of 3.6 per cent, but it appears Labor will hold all of its seats there.

The ALP has made some gains.

It looks to have won the seats of Adelaide and Cunningham in New South Wales and looks like picking up the Sydney seat of Parramatta.

Bob Brown (Leader of the Greens) is claiming the Liberal policies didn't work in Tasmania, because they only gained two seats, rather than three!

'They didn't really win, because they didn't win by a bigger margin!'

Pathetic.

Just for the record - John Howard has won his seat, but it looks like it's gone to preferences.

Yeah, it's pretty funny. Now we've got someone yacking, "The Big Lie won over the positive message." I also loved one comment about two more "scalps" for Libs. LOL. Love it!

BIG LIE ... BIG LIE ... BIG LIE

I think I got the talking point for the losers. :P
