Rather screwed up on the memos when he INSISTED that we consider the content even if they were forgeries and attacked those who pointed out details that cast doubt on the authenticity.
He stood behind his "facts" for a week and attacked his critics rather than saying that they had been called into question and would be put on the back burner until further substance was determined.

I agree with you completely, however, in the context of what I was saying to the station manager, I was trying to show I was reasonable and took Blather at his word before moving to the draft issue, which even CBS admitted was a hoax---they just deemed it newsworthy.
