FReepmail me if you want on or off my health and science ping list.
The only Old World language to ever be linked with a New World language is one related to Sumerian and Sami in the Finno-Ugric subgroup.
Could that be our "X"?
And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
Adam and Eve had other children (unnamed)
Very cool.
Past ping!
ping!
Wow!
"But the American X lineage turned out to be pre-Columbian and its owners would have arrived in America either 15,000 or 30,000 years ago, depending on certain genetic assumptions.
"The European X lineage seems to have originated in Western Asia around 40,000 years ago. Dr. Wallace suggests a part of this group may have made their way to America via Siberia, even though no traces of the X-lineage have yet turned up in eastern Asia. A trans-Atlantic route is a possible alternative.
"When modern humans first started to leave Africa, about 50,000 years ago by present reckoning, they probably consisted of small groups of hunter-gatherers a few hundred strong."
What is truly amazing about the above is that it presupposes African origin and dispersal. This assumes similar climatology over this span of time, when we know there was an intermedial ice age from ~10k BCE to 4KBCE. Some assume an earlier appearance ~18k+ BCE.
What is omitted is Antartica from the hypothesis. Yet we know it was once free of Ice! And, given it's location, in a more favorable climate period, could easily be the homeland for human dispersion to ALL Continents!
"But geneticists, by tracing the DNA patterns found in people throughout the world, have now identified lineages descended from 10 sons of a genetic Adam and 18 daughters of Eve. "
Looks like the data contradicts the title-- there weren't 10 Adams and 18 Eves, but 10 sons of Adam and 18 daughters of Eve (how in the heck did that work?) Methinks this is all a bit sketchy at this point. ;)
Nevertheless, looks like the real story here is 1 Adam, 1 Eve. Hmmmmm. Looks remarkably like the same story that is in the Bible, the one that the Jews accepted as true more than 3000 years ago. Ain't science a wonderful thing?
Requisite ping.
I would suggest that their timing is off. They say the European group of Amerindians came between "15,000 and 30,000 years ago" depending on methodology. My guess is the 30,000 years is the date using the assumptions they used for all of the other numbers (including the date of 144,000 for Adam and Eve and the date of 50,000 for humans leaving Africa). They gave BOTH dates for the group of Amerindians because 30K sounds WAY too far in the past to match the facts. Even 15K is stretching it, unless this was the first group of humans in the new world.
If that is the case, then many of the dates in this article can be sliced in half and still fit the data. That makes all of this pretty darned recent.
It's the story of Genesis albeit Sitchkin-ized....

Ever read Adam's generations in Genesis? Who is listed and who is not.
Genesis 5:1-32
The Nadine I knew had really messed-up genes, thanks to her Uncle Daddy.
While it is true that antarctica was indeed lush at one time, that was on a geological scale. You are talking about hundreds of millions of years ago as opposed to the hundreds of thousands of years of humans. Antarctica has been ice covered longer than any evolutionary evidence of even proto-humans nevermind homo sapiens sapiens.
Maybe. < |:)~
Genesis 1:1 IN the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2. And the earth was (should be "became") without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
We are not told when the earth became without form.
