> I hereby state that my religion requires me to openly carry my .45 ACP!
Depends on what your religion is. If you are an Asatruar (follower of the old Norse beliefs... you know, Odin & Thor and whatnot), it seems you should be able to claim that:
Havamal, stanza 38
A wayfarer should not walk unarmed,
But have his weapons to hand:
He knows not when he may need a spear,
Or what menace meet on the road.
And if you are a Christian, IIRC, Jesus tells his followers that if they do not have a sword, sell your clothes and buy one.
However, the Havamal stanza says to not only have weapons, but to have them when you go out. The Norse knew what they were about...
I keep a short steel bar with a wrist strap on it to ward off potential attackers. If questioned, this is for checking the tire pressure.
Might I suggest a large Mag light instead? The batteries add some nice extra weight and the things are tough as hell plus they're really nice flashlights.
I keep mine in the car because I have skunks on my property and need to check for them before going in the side door.
Your ignorance of Jesus's teaching is readily apparent to anyone familiar with scripture, and please, for your sake, do not ascribe words to Him which He never said. The sword carried by a follower of Christ is the Sword of the Spirit, i.e. the Word of God.
"ceremonial m1911a1"
Nice piece. I want one.
> do not ascribe words to Him which He never said.
Ah. My error. I must have been thinking of some *other* Christ who said: "But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one."
> The sword carried by a follower of Christ is the Sword of the Spirit, i.e. the Word of God.
Yes, most effective for defense against muggers.
Thank you. I was trying to find that text to respond also.
Seriously, while I respect the Sikhs right to wear a dagger if that is part of their faith, the same authorities would not let other students run around campus wearing a 6-inch blade, they would be arrested or expelled.
The Sikh's martial culture is based on their fighting Islamic invaders for hundreds of years. There is definitely no love lost between Sikhs and Muslims.
Your understanding of Luke 22 is grossly flawed and greviously misapplied. Interesting that you should mention "context"!!! Please see Luke 22:49-51 and especially Matthew 26:52: "Then Jesus said to him, 'Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.'" Fortunately for you, the Lord's mercy is super-abundant. I urge you to renounce Satan, to repent, and to seek His kingdom and His truth while there is yet time.
My last reply to Talon was actually meant for Orionblamb. Talon has some knowledge of the text (though he's neglected the main point), whereas Orion appears to think that weapons are more powerful than the Word of God, which, of course, is absurd, since it is the Word of God that bought the universe into being, and everything in it, seen and unseen. Lord have mercy on your soul.
It's commonly known that Sikhs have alternatives to carrying a weapon like that. There are little kits that have tiny "toy" knives and combs so that they are complying with what they are required to carry. I hate to offend, but carrying that big ceremonial dagger in the US is the equivalent of someone carrying around a five-pound Bible.
absurd
If you carry your Kabar, then you are doing a good work, my son. It is a "bringer of mercy" after all! Go forth and bring mercy!
You beat me to it.
