Depends on what your religion is. If you are an Asatruar (follower of the old Norse beliefs... you know, Odin & Thor and whatnot), it seems you should be able to claim that:
Havamal, stanza 38
A wayfarer should not walk unarmed,
But have his weapons to hand:
He knows not when he may need a spear,
Or what menace meet on the road.
And if you are a Christian, IIRC, Jesus tells his followers that if they do not have a sword, sell your clothes and buy one.
However, the Havamal stanza says to not only have weapons, but to have them when you go out. The Norse knew what they were about...
Your ignorance of Jesus's teaching is readily apparent to anyone familiar with scripture, and please, for your sake, do not ascribe words to Him which He never said. The sword carried by a follower of Christ is the Sword of the Spirit, i.e. the Word of God.
What was true in 900 A.D. is just as true today.
The carrying of a weapon is both wise and the symbol of a free man - something liberals have always opposed - freedoma and wisdom.
