Two major national polls taken after the final presidential debate show President Bush gaining a lead over Sen. John Kerry, even though the same polls show Mr. Kerry as the overall winner in the candidates' three debates.
A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll released yesterday showed Mr. Bush with 52 percent and Mr. Kerry with 44 percent among likely voters, a sharp reversal from earlier in the month, when the poll found the Democratic challenger leading the president by one percentage point, 49 percent to 48 percent. The latest Newsweek poll shows Mr. Bush leading 50 percent to 44 percent for Mr. Kerry among likely voters. Mr. Kerry had a 47 percent to 45 percent lead in Newsweek's Sept. 30 to Oct. 1 poll of registered voters. Among all registered voters in the latest Newsweek poll, taken Thursday and Friday, Mr. Bush led 48 percent to 46 percent.
Both polls scored Mr. Kerry the winner in the Wednesday debate, with Gallup finding that the Massachusetts Democrat won 52 percent to 39 percent and Newsweek finding that Mr. Kerry won 44 percent to 36 percent. The two polls also had shown Mr. Kerry winning the earlier debates with Mr. Bush.

Bush for President!
Yeah, Kerry promised to raise taxes, retreat in Iraq and subject America to a "global test"... but he was more articulate than Bush, so he won...
I also heard Kerry won the Vietnam war......for the wrong side!!!
"Despite" debates.
And this in the Wash Times.
I believe what they're saying is that although the polls found Kerry to be the better debater, voters are actually deciding who will be the better president.
Winning isn't everything, then...
Well, yeah, I gathered that,
but many of us saw the winner differently. :)
There was a focus group on one of the networks for the third debate of voters who were supposedly undecided going into it. After the debate the host asked who won the debate. About two thirds raised their hands for Kerry, and less than a third for Bush. Then he asked how many had decided to vote for Kerry. Two people raised their hands. Then he asked who had decided to vote for Bush. About 2/3 raised their hands.
We'll (gesturing with hands outstretched and thumbs up) bring (drawing hands to chest) back our trusted friends the (crossing arms) French, Russians, and Germans. We'll (holding fists outstretched and clenched) strengthen our alliances and (one hand out, with the trendy, TV friendly thumb-upward-but-not-outstretched motion) bring peace back to the (other hand coming cown on the podium like Kruschev) to the table!
Heard about that. Very good. Too bad we weren't talking about that on national news for the past three years. Heck, for the past 14 years.
Yes we did, but as long as the majority of voters see President Bush as the winner in the final poll, (and the only one that really counts) I can live with the debate #s.
People polled liked the way JohnKerry said "See my website for the answer to that question..."
Me too, and polls (those dreaded thangs) are
looking GOOD for POTUS.
We need a landslide Kat, so they cannot steal it from us.
