The Fair Tax is neither an idea whose time has come, or an idea I support.

I learned the other day that even Lincoln at one point believed this:

"I will say, then, that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races; that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say, in addition to this, that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And in as much as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race."

Source

But that didn't make it right. Still, with time his viewpoint changed for the better.

So far little has been accomplished to turn around our ever expanding federal bureaucracy.

Agreed. So what are we going to do about it?

I'm getting very tired of the attitude some Republicans have where they complain not enough has been done but then turn around and offer, at most if at all, tepid support to conservatives who are truly interested in advancing the ideas they supposedly share.

Vote for the most conservative candidate running and keep the GOP in charge of both the Legislative and Executive Branches of government. Same at the state and local levels.

I can't speak for "some Republicans". I can only speak for this conservative Republican. If I lived in Illinois, I'd vote for Alan Keyes over Barak Obama. If Keyes was running against Arnold Schwarzenegger, I'd vote for Keyes. If Keyes was running against Rudi Giuliani, I'd vote for Keyes.

One last time. If as a candidate for elective office, you're not successful in advancing your political agenda and pursuading people to vote for you, then you can't honesty think you'll ever have a chance of ever being given the public trust.

Has it ever crossed your mind that this obsession of yours is getting boring?

I doubt anyone wants to read another word of it.

Why not do something else with the time the Lord has given you?

Something unifying, and productive ...

I plan on electing three GOP candidates for federal office on November 2nd?

You?

Excellent. More power to you.

I will be doing the same, even though Bill Jones' chances look unpromising here in CA.

But, even in a losing cause, if it prove so, it's better to close the margin.

Meantime, I'm working on teaching young people the principles of the American Republic, via my website, and my online classes.

Everyone should serve where he, or she, is called.

Best to you,

Richard F.

"Can any of you provide a list of Keyes' endorsements? Anyone? Anyone?"

He has my endorsement. What other endorsements do I need?

Yep. Conservative GOPers, please.

If I lived in Illinois, I'd vote for Alan Keyes over Barak Obama. If Keyes was running against Arnold Schwarzenegger, I'd vote for Keyes. If Keyes was running against Rudi Giuliani, I'd vote for Keyes.

Same here. But what is your response to someone who might say "Giuliani has a better chance of beating the Democrat, so vote for him over Keyes"?

If as a candidate for elective office, you're not successful in advancing your political agenda and pursuading people to vote for you, then you can't honesty think you'll ever have a chance of ever being given the public trust.

As for persuading people to vote for you, this article quite brilliantly sums it up. A little excerpt:

See here, Alan Keyes. You're breaking the rules of correct political discourse. You are giving the people what they say they want but don't.
That said, maybe Illinois isn't the best place for Keyes to run. But he was asked. And he accepted. So he's the candidate.

If he doesn't win this time, maybe he could try somewhere else. What conservative wouldn't love to see a real live vertebrate in the Senate someday? :-)

I've supported and voted for candidates ranging from political moderates to staunch conservatives. I don't vote for social liberals who espouse the pro-choice agenda of abortion rights.

>>>>If he doesn't win this time, maybe he could try somewhere else.

Alan Keyes was in a very tough spot this time. He took on an unwinnable situation, based on a set of unfavorable circumstances and his own inability to convince voters that his political agenda is the right agenda for them. There comes a time when we all have to face reality. Keyes doesn't have what it takes to get elected to public office. I think its fair to say, Alan Keyes has worn out his welcome with many voters, if not with most voters.

Just out of curiosity, What do you consider a "political moderate"? Does the abortion issue not play into that?

Last election I voted for a liberal Republican (Linda Lingle) mainly because the alternative, pro-abortion feminazi Democrat Mazie Hirono, would have been far worse.

Keyes doesn't have what it takes to get elected to public office. I think its fair to say, Alan Keyes has worn out his welcome with many voters, if not with most voters.

Yet you'd still vote for him?

I don't agree with Keyes on every issue, but there's no other Republican I'd be happier to support, given the opportunity.

You can be a political moderate and also be pro-life. Bob Dole is a pro-life, moderate Republican who I voted for.

>>>>Yet you'd still vote for him?

That's what I said. Hypothetically speaking, of course. After three Senatorial campaigns and two national party primaries, Keyes has proven he is unelectable.
