He should also stop attendence to the World Series in Boston, and prevent any public celebration if they win the World Series. That would anger sooooooo many Redsox fans they will go to the polls en masse and vote Republican. Wouldn't that be grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaat?

The mayor should close his office during the World Series in order to prevent assinine requests from emanating from there.

How will this prevent a police officer from blasting a bean-bag into the back of a college girl's skull?
To: mawebgeek
Closing down the bars is not the solution. The Boston Police had over a thousand officers on duty Wednesday night. If they had maintained a constant police presence on the streets by keeping officers stationed at regularly spaced intervals throughout the Kenmore and Fenway area they would have been able to take charge and remove the jackasses early before things got out of hand.
People were flipping over cars, breaking windows, climbing trees and ripping down street and business signs with impunity. No cops were nearby. Instead, they kept the majority of officers at a staging area, and only brought them in once things got ugly.
The Police can't prevent a crowd from gathering, and they can't prevent a crowd from being drunk, but they can control the mood and civility by being proactive. The large crowds that gathered should have been anticipated, and they should have had a better approach. The police were only prepared to fight a riot, not to prevent the riot from occurring initially. Instead they let the situation get out of control before they did anything, and by that time it was too late to effectively protect property and public safety.

Waaaah. Youth, high emotions, and alcohol make for a bad combination. One teenager, one brain. Two teenagers, half a brain. Three teenagers, no brain at all. Throw alcohol into the mix and you're begging for a disaster.
The police ended up killing a girl after the last Red Sox game, because the celebration turned into a riot.
Since the fans have proven that they can't be trusted to control the situation themselves, it's easy to see why the mayor would consider preventive controls. Obviously, he was convinced that the preventive controls wouldn't work anyway, so he left the situation alone.
So, by all means, let's dump more police into the mix, and see whether that will help. Let's never consider altering the mix that produced the riot in the first place.

What's the big deal with Boston? I mean, the weather's lousy and the people are rude, but it's expensive.

Lots of partying in StLouis last night too. I haven't seen one thing about rioting though. The folks in flyover country must not know how to party properly (sarcasm)
