We will begin "Operation Season's Greetings" to help bring the Holiday Festivities to our Troops. Stay tuned for more information! Thanks to Auntie Fawnn for the beautiful graphic!

*IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT*

Beginning Friday, October 29th, we will begin running a 3 day Halloween thread. Mixed into the Halloween Thread will be music, entertainment, silliness, and everything that you expect from the Canteen Crew.

Also, the Sunday Guest Chaplain Thread will run as a separate thread on October 31st. With the election only two days away, we want to keep the Chaplain doors open for everyone!!

*IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR NOVEMBER 1st-3rd*

From November 1st through the 3rd, we will run an ongoing Canteen Favorites Thread. This is being done because of the expected high traffic that FR will be experiencing the day before, during, and after the election.

And we want the FR Canteen to be a safe haven for those that want to escape the political events of those days. So? If you need to take a breather, come visit the Troops and Canteen right here!!

Thank you!

Lost Treasure

Read: Mark 10:17-27

Sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. —Mark 10:21

Bible In One Year: Jeremiah 9-11; 1 Timothy 6

Don takes walks on the city's railroad tracks and searches under freeway overpasses. He's not looking for lost treasure; he's looking for homeless people. Don met Jake, who lives in a makeshift underground shack and is mentally ill. He stops by to see Jake occasionally, making sure he's warm and has food. He tells Jake about Jesus because he wants him to find "treasure in heaven."

Jesus talked about this treasure with a rich young man who asked Him how to inherit eternal life. Jesus said, "Sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me" (Mark 10:21).

Jesus wasn't teaching that we must give up our wealth to be acceptable to Him. We can never earn eternal life by our works. He was showing this man his spiritual bankruptcy. His heart was set on wealth, not Jesus.

That rich young man and our homeless friend have more in common than we might think. In the eyes of God, both are spiritually bankrupt. We all are, unless we have Jesus.

No good deed can earn eternal life—not helping the homeless or giving away all our money. Jesus wants us to give Him our heart. Then we'll have real treasure—treasure in heaven—and we'll seek to help others. —Anne Cetas

What shall I give Thee, Master?
Giver of gifts divine;
I will not hold time, talents, or gold—
For everything shall be Thine. —Grimes

Salvation is given, not earned.

I posted this last night, but I wanted to post again today because I know it wasn't seen by many -- I am just floored by the second item!! (still!)

FIRST - hubby was telling me tonight about one of his motorcycle forums where they have set up a separate area for one of their members who is currently serving in Iraq to post letters from Iraq. His name is Sean Hoffman. To read some of his entries, click here -- and warning, the first one is a real tear jerker.

SECOND - this is WILD - it is SUCH a small world!! Tonight I got to meet with some other homeschooling moms who use the same curriculum I do. We had a "Meet Up" arranged via internet at a local Starbucks. In the course of conversation, one of the other moms and I discovered we had both had a family member in Iraq. She mentioned that her hubby and his brother had actually set up a website for their OTHER brother who had been to both Afghanistan and Iraq... kjfine had sent me a picture once from Iraq to post on FR and I ended up somehow finding the website A Marine Story and put a link to it on my profile page. One of the marines in this picture, is her brother in law and the website is his!! WOW!! Small world!!! :o)
